5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album, I love her sound
This album is so different than any other solo Spice stuff out there. I love the beats & the rythym, this album is amazing. My favorites are "Feels So Good", "Tell Me", "Lullaby", "Hotter", "Step Inside", & "I Want You Back". I love the whole album though. It's ashamed she was dropped, but don't let that stop you from buying... "Hotter" should have been released instead...

2.0 out of 5 stars She's Not Scary Spice Anymore
A more appropriate title for Melanie B's solo album would be "Lukewarm." It's got a few good songs, but for the most part, the disk is taken up with put-me-to-sleep ballads, and bluntly sexual R&B songs. This may be a nice debut album for someone who enjoys Missy Elliott, but for us pop fans, it's a total let-down. Instead of this, try Victoria Beckham's solo album, Free...

Wow! I never thought this CD was going to be any good but it is. Melanie B. has really good producers on this CD like Missy, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley and Rodney Jerkins. I'm sorry I didn't buy it sooner. I wish this CD was released in the U.S. because I think it would've blown up. It was only released overseas though. Melanie B. is the bomb. I wish we could see more of her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly HOT, September 20, 2003

If I knew that this album is this good, I'd had bought it earlier. Maybe I would have if I've known that she worked with Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Missy Elliott, Fred Jerkins, LaShawn Daniels and Teddy Riley (each of them is a big name enough to make me buy a CD). I just can't pick which song is the best, 'cause they're equally good, maybe except for Feel Me Now, which tries to be sexy, but it's boring (although if you want to fell asleep, I can recommend it), I guess they gave it to her after Janet Jackson rejected it, but the rest of the album is very good. I especially like "Tell Me" with its cool rhythm and cool lyrics, and "I Believe" with its uncredited sampling of the Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together" (say it, say it, say it again). It's a good album and makes me wanna more, so I guess I'll start looking for the singles while I'm waiting for Melanie's second solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WOULD'VE NEVER THOUGHT!, February 9, 2005
This review is from: Hot [Dutch Re-release CD] (Audio CD)
Melanie B is coming up. Her deput album is fire, forgot hot. She has her pop side and R&B side combinded. It's wonderful.

My Top Favorites:
Feels So Good
Hell No
Lullaby
Hotter
I Want You Back
Feel Me Now

Very seldom do you come across a group break up and they all come out with c.d.'s and they're actually good. Mel B is living proof. 11 tracks isn't enough because I'm dying to hear more from her. But do the favor and get this, you won't be disappointed. And if you are, your taste just sucks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Way Better Then Credited, November 23, 2004

Although I wasn't a big fan of the Spice Girls, I liked the single Holla so I decided to give there solo projects a listen. This by far to me was the best of them, although there are spots on the album that are too pop for me, there are tracks that really show case this rather limited singer in a new light. On the track Pack Your S***, she hits notes you wouldn't think she could hit, nowhere near a Whitney Houston, or a Monica, but impressive for her range. The track Step Inside is a sexier, more raspy side to her voice, while Hotter, ABC 123, and I Want You Back, showcase the Melanie B. that we've all known from the Spice Girls. The other stand out track is Tell Me, the rest where boring, bad, forgettable, or too pop to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very "Hot" album, but very inconsistent, July 11, 2007
By
This review is from: Hot [Dutch Re-release CD] (Audio CD)
I came across this album in a used CD store a few weeks ago and decided to buy it. I had already heard the singles "Tell Me", which I always loved, and "I Want You Back", which I sort of liked. Being an American, I was not exposed to any of the other songs on radio, so I went into this album with an open mind and neutral standpoint.

The album opens strong with a very well-produced single called "Feels So Good", which was produced by the legendary James Harris III and Terry Lewis duo (Janet Jackson, Prince). This is followed by "Tell Me", which many of us are already familiar with. The album started wonderfully with these 2 tracks, but from this point on, the tracks are poorly organized and inconsistent in their styles.

Melanie B is enthusiastic about the tracks, and I have to admit that the music videos for this album were very well produced. I don't believe for one moment that Melanie B was forced to make an R&B album against her will, simply because she was the "black" one. I believe that Melanie B just did exactly what Melanie C did - made an album of a different genre, because that's what she wanted to do.

First let me say that I am very glad Melanie B decided to take on the R&B genre and venture away from the "bubble-gum pop" that we were all used to while Melanie B was in the Spice Girls. However, several of the tracks sound more like R&B demos by young up-and-coming stars, rather than professionally recorded tracks by an already world-famous singer. The basic melodies and beats are catchy, but don't have enough production - this is especially evident in songs that would have otherwise would have been exceptionally good, such as "Pack Your S**t", "Hotter", and "Step Inside".

For the most part, I rather like this album. The only song that I really don't like is "I Believe", which is way too demo-ish. Some of the better tracks include "Lullaby" (except for the cheezy lyrics and overused melody on the line "since the day you were born"), "Feels So Good", "ABC 123", and "Tell Me". Melanie B uses a lot of Caribbean influence in many of the tracks, perhaps inspired by her father's West Indian origins. "Hotter" was originally intended to be released as a single, and it could have had a lot of potential had it been more properly produced. However, "Hotter", like many of the other songs, just sound too "empty". Even the hit single "I Want You Back" is somewhat guilty of lack-of-production.

Most of the Spice Girls fans will buy this CD, love it, misunderstand the sexual lyrics, and tell you something like "It WoOd BeE KoOl If U BuY tHiS cD I <3 ScArY SpIcE, SpIcE gIrLs cOmIn BaK 2007! w00t w00t!". However, I'm going to tell you straight up that you will not like this album if you are expecting a Spice Girls-like bubble-gum pop CD. This album is very urban/R&B sounding and has very little, if any, pop influence. For those who enjoy this type of music, this may be a new undiscovered gem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quite Terrible, December 30, 2004
This review is from: Hot [Dutch Re-release CD] (Audio CD)
When spice Girls broke Up...I never realized some one of them could make an album that is so bad as this one..."Forever" by Spice Girls is a classic compared to this one. "Feels So Good" and "I Want You back" (featuring Missy Elliot) are the only ones that rock a little bit...she has tried to do some hip hop...well anyway...this isn't good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO HOT!!!!, October 5, 2004

This album is off the chain! I love it!After listeing to everyone's reviews, i was a little nervous about buying it, but i went for it and boy am i glad i did!!!
Feels So Good- 4/5, pretty good, kind of poppy, but good.

Tell Me- 5/5, THE BEST, i love this song very R&B, kind of like Brandy, and Deborah Cox(and Monica)

Hell No- 5/5, great slow jam, i like it a lot, not as mean as it sounds...

Lullaby- 4/5, beautiful love song deticated to her daughter.

Hotter- 5/5 I love this song, it is mid-tempo, like dancing in a sweaty club, grinding with your lover...

Step inside- 3/5, i don't like this song too much, she tries to do too much with her voice(mid-tempo)

ABC;123- 4/5 pretty good song, very easy-going kinda song

I belive- 5/5, another poppy song, but addictive...

I want you back- 4/5 I LOVE THIS TRUTHFUL SONG!!! We always want somebody who treats us bad.

Pack Ur Sh**- 5/5, really good "hate you" song, kind of nasty though, enough said...

Feel Me Now- 8/5 Great slow jam, kind of reminds me of Janet Jackson...best song on the album(other than Tell Me)

Melanie B might have a limited voice, but she uses it beautifully on this album, if you like r&b(and Brandy, Janet, and Mya) you should definitely make this part of your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hot to Warm, August 3, 2004
This review is from: Hot [Dutch Re-release CD] (Audio CD)
I bought this cd when it came out because I liked the Spice Girls. The other solo efforts were all enjoyable and I thought this would just add to my collection. I ended up loving it! There are some songs on here that I'm sure Janet was mad she didn't get her hands on. "Feels So Good" is a great up-tempo dance song that has the sweetest lyrics. Mel's voice, though limited, is put to its best possible use. "Tell Me" is a great "f" you song to her ex. The tough-chic lyrics are right on target and convey a mood that is classic girl-power. The title track is like dancing on a beach in Mexico with a sexy stranger you know you're going to take home. There is also the Missy Elliot track "I Want You Back" added in for good measure. "Pack Your Sh*t" is a suprisingly good and X-rated track. It is shocking to here a Spice Girl go there. There are a few throw-away tracks on this album, but overall, it is an excellent cd worthy of your collection.
