The ending I wanted, but . . .,
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 12 (v. 12) (Paperback)
Ok, I've been a fan of "Hot Gimmick" for a while. I loved the romance and the characters. But the ending . . . it ended like I wanted it to, I mean, Hatsumi chooses the guy I liked her with best, but . . . Hatsumi never learns to stand up for herself. Ryoki still pushes her around all the time, and you're left feeling like the relationship is kinda abusive and would never work out in real life. Yeah, I know it's just a manga, but it still put a damper on my enjoyment. Also, the plot was sorta thin in this last volume. You kinda know what's gonna happen before you even pick it up. All in all, I was hoping for a stronger ending.

Final Volume,
By Natalie H (Cleveland, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 12 (v. 12) (Paperback)
I found the first Hot Gimmick maybe two years ago, and have kept up with the series ever since. In the twelfth book, Hatsumi's relationship problems still haven't resolved, poor girl. She is still trying to keep her family together without hurting anyone, but it goes without saying that this isn't easy for her.
This volume was a bittersweet read. It answered the main question, but a little too quickly. There was hardly any suspense in the story, and the actual account regarding Hatsumi ended maybe halfway through the book. The rest of the pages are filled with a (much-needed) story of Akane and Subaru and a short story that, while cute, is also redundant. Overall, I suggest buying this book. Although a little rushed, it shouldn't affect your decision of starting or finishing the series.

Empty ending...,
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 12 (v. 12) (Paperback)
I really do love the Hot Gimmick series but this was just one of those crummy quickly put together endings that many animes/mangas unfortunately do. The ending was very straightforward no big twists or turns to make the reader anticipate turning the next page like the past volumes have done. What's worse is that after Hatsumi's and Akane's stories there is a 20-30 page filler about a random story that has NOTHING to do with Hot Gimmick. Overall, the ending left me feeling that there was still an unfinished story but hey nothing I can do about that.

I have to say that this wasn't the best way to end a series. Its like they thought, "lets just throw together something!" and put no time or thought in it.
First of all, throughout the whole series, NO ONE changed. Hatsumi was still weak and couldn't stand up for herself to the very end. And Ryoki...well all I can say is that how can Hatsumi choose a guy that physically abused her and demanded these impossible things (i.e "don't think about any guys excpet me") Then there was the unbeliveable plot twist with Shinogu (who was really the one she should have ended up with) I mean a monk?! Thats so pathetic. Overall i have to say that this was a pretty lackluster ending. While not as bad as other manga endings I've read it was not up to par with the rest of Hot Gimmick.

um...so like half of the volume isn't related to the story. The story ends...but the pages keep coming? yeah that's what happens. i couldn't believe it. There is a side story after it,that is interesting. and i have to admit that the stand alone short story called "10 days" is very cute....this book was a waste of paper. they should have just made volume 11 the last book, but just a little bit longer than the other ones.
now, onto the story. TALK ABOUT ANTI-CLIMATIC!! it's like the author knew that there was no real END in sight. so it just ends like ..okay she choose this guy so you know even though she chose there will be more drama for her. and that's just her life! it's set up so that there can be a sequel. and dammit...someday....THERE BETTER BE! i'm not gonna say who she choose...but it wasn't who i wanted. Blah!!!!BOO!!!! yuck. Enjoy th rest of the series though!

The story is great, but I didn't like the ending. Even though she made an awful decision, I can't believe how some people like be abused!

I HATED the ending of hot gimmick volume 12.~!,
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 12 (v. 12) (Paperback)
I bought hot gimmick volume 1 just to see what it was about and fell in love with the series! I was so excited to read volume 12 and when i finally read it I was VERY disappointed.!
Hatsumi ends up with Ryoki... AND thats not all! Shinogu (the guy Hatsumi shouldve ended up with) decides to become a freaking MONK! My jaw just about fell off my body when I read that part of the volume. I just thought WTF! Please dont waste ur money like i did on these volumes. It is a complete waste of time and is very disappointing at the end.!

Good, but a bit of a disapointment..,
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 12 (v. 12) (Paperback)
I enjoyed the romance and occasional bits of fluff, but most of the characters irritated me to death. Hatsumi's character was completely ridiculous. After 12 volumes, she never learned to stand up for herself. She was a doormat. She let nearly every male character introduced to the plot dominant her life. I was hoping that Ryoki would grow as a character, yet he remained irritably consistent the whole way through. He got the girl, but remained to be emotionally, and at times, physically abusive. I could not see this relationship ever working in real life with real people. I would have much rather seen Hatsumi stand up for herself, ditch those idiots, and develop as a stronger, more self-confident character.

A GOOD ENDING!,

I bought this manga at Uwjimaya in English! They apparently sell the books before the official release date! Which is great! Hatsumi has to chose between her brother, Shinogu, her old childhood friend, OR her off and on JERK boyfriend. The ending may be a disappointment to some readers depending on who they were rooting for! But don't fret! If you don't like the ending you can always check out Hot Gimmick S, an alternate ending! It will be available Feb. 2007!

I loved the whole manga series overall, and the ending was satisfying but it could have been much better. Yet, I was happy with Hatsumi's choice.
