5.0 out of 5 stars Enslave thy neighbor...part seven., October 21, 2005
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 7 (Paperback)

Ryoki wakes up on the morning of New Year's to discover that he had fallen asleep the night before, and basically wasted the best opportunity to be with Hatsumi. In his disgust he leaves her there, but she manages to catch a ride with her brother to her home. When he gets home he reveals to his mother that he is dating Hatsumi and goes to her apartment to see her. When she arrives it's to learn that a burglar has vandalized the house and Ryoki manages to scare the guy away. In the intensity of the moment she finds herself in his arms kissing him, and it is just then that the alerted neighbors burst in and find them together. Pretty soon this tidbit of info is all over the complex, that they are an item, and Hatsumi is being treated better than ever before.

Azusa goes missing and everyone is worried, including Rina, his manager, who goes to Hatsumi for help. Even after what he tried to do to her, she can't quite give up on the fact that they were childhood friends and reaches out to him when he resurfaces. She takes him to Shinogu's to relax and chill out for a time and it is there that it is confirmed that Shinogu is not only adopted but is trying to get the adoption annulled. Things get even more complicated when Ryoki arrives home from a vacation in anger that Hatsumi has not been around to receive his phone calls and takes his frustration out on her in front of everyone else.

The series is still captivating, even after seven books. Ryoki and Hatsumi's relationship becomes stronger through the circumstances prevented and Shinogu's disgust with all of it becomes more obvious. This series is progressing nicely, do pick it up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot Gimmick vol. 1, November 27, 2004
This review is from: Hot Gimmick, Vol. 7 (Paperback)
The main character is Hatsumi Narita. When she goes to buy her little sister Akane a pregnencey test because she believes she is pregnent, Hatsumi runs into none other than her neighbor and the guy she's loathed since the first grade, Ryoki Tachibana. He blackmails her to work for him or else he'll spread her secret. But it helps that the model Azusa has returned from his long time away since the beginning of second grade. I can't say it's one of my favorite graphic novels that I own, but it's good enough that I'd recommend it to you. You should really try it out, It gets better in the second book.
