2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, March 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Hot Gossip (Audio CD)
I was so disappointed to hear this album after her two previous rock'n'roll records. "Hot Gossip" is 10 tracks of bland, over-produced adult contemporary pop fluff. Every song sounds the same. I'm not just saying that, it's really true. There's absolutely no variety on this disc. I tried very hard to find something good about it, but it's so bland that I gave it away after three listenings.

Every song sounds like the theme from a TV show on the WB or Lifetime network. The lyrics are extremely trite, like "When I'm down, you lift me up again/And I am proud to call someone like you my friend" and "I've heard a million things about you/But I just can't see my life without you". Sas sings these with a light, fluffy, almost teenage voice - absolutely devoid of the soul and grit that saturated "Racine" and "Rats".

What happened to the sexy, sultry woman on the cover of "Racine"? Where's the (...) rock'n'roll of "Racine" and "Rats"? I couldn't believe this was the same woman who made those records - she's changed the spelling of her name (Sas Jordon instead of Sass Jordan) so that should have been my first clue. On "Hot Gossip" she sounds like one of those blonde teenage pop princesses. There's no maturity in either the lyrics or her voice, the CD is too slick and verproduced, and has no soul. Very bland and disappointing.

Sass, take the title of "Racine" to heart, and get back to your roots.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sass? What happened?, July 1, 2005

OK, I admit it would be hard to top the album "Rats." After all, Stevie Salas is one of the baddest guitar players on the planet and the chemistry between Sass and Stevie on the album Rats just jumps out of your speakers and kicks you in the pants.

On Hot Gossip it seems Sass, excuse me, Sas took a wrong turn on her way to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and ended up in Teen Pop Limbo. Granted, if I didn't know this was Sass and I heard it on the radio I would say "hey this girl can actually sing." But knowing what this woman is really capable of makes it hard to imagine that she would even consider doing a lame pop album like Hot Gossip (sorry Sass, baby you know I love you!).

OK Sass, maybe you didn't have the success you wanted with Rats and Racine but that was the early 90's and Grunge was big. It wasn't the high point in history for aggressive guitars, powerhouse vocals, and in your face Rock n Roll. I gotta' tell you, you have a lot of dedicated and loyal fans who love what you do, or rather, did. No need to try and sell out.

Allright now, the pop thing ain't working. It's time to fire the Producer of Hot Gossip and get back with Nick DiDia & Stevie Salas........and make another great Rock n Roll record!

1.0 out of 5 stars This CD should be titled: THE WORST OF SASS, April 12, 2005
This review is from: Hot Gossip (Audio CD)
Sass is no Britney. But, from this CD, you could hardly tell the difference. For Sass to lower herself to Britney's level of over-processed, un-soulful singing, blows me away! Sass had it all with Rats. She should go back to that genre. That's what the 30-somethings are aching for these days. Change isn't always for the better...uh, and what's with the dropped "s"?
