Book Description

Silhouette Intimate Moments February 1, 2002

They called him Project Iceman. The U-2 pilot who, incredibly, hadn't aged since the day his top-secret mission went south into the Arctic Ocean...forty-five years ago. Biologist Diana Remington had the duty of monitoring the scientific marvel, but her OMEGA objective was to learn from the fiercely guarded flyboy what had happened during that fateful flight.

From his buzz cut to his June Cleaver ideal of women, Major Charles Stone should have riled Diana's defenses. Instead, she ached for all that he'd lost...and welcomed his heated touch despite the rules--and the risk. Because someone seemed determined to let sleeping spies lie--forever....

More About the Author

As an AF brat I lived in France and Newfoundland, both of which I loved, and at least half of the fifty states. As an AF officer, I served tours in Taiwan, Vietnam, the Pentagon, and the rest of the fifty states!

Now I'm having a blast putting all those adventures into my books.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the author's best, February 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hot As Ice (Code Name: Danger) (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Paperback)
Unlike some of Merline Lovelace's longer books, this story lacks interest. The premise--pilot frozen in the 1950s is thawed out now--seems to promise readers an interesting look at the hero's adjustment to modern values, but in fact he makes the adjustment fairly easily. His sexism, etc., is all on the surface. The heroine isn't terribly interesting either--she could pass for the heroine of several other romances without trouble. If you're going to start with a sci-fi premise, you should DO something with it--not hang the same old romance plot on it and expect it to be enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but...., April 24, 2007

An Air Force pilot on a secret mission is frozen in the ice and is thawed out 45 years in the future. Great premise, different, interesting and enjoyable. Charlie was so heartbreaking with the shock he'd experienced and everything he knew and loved being gone. He tried so hard to adjust to the world as it is today.

I "came of age" during the Women's Movement and I'm definitely liberated. Diana is upset because Charlie puts his hand on her back when they are walking and opens doors for her. I open doors for my sister or my mother or a man who's coming in as I'm going out. A man opening a door for a woman does not mean he's going to throw her over his shoulder, strip off her shoes and plop her in the kitchen with a strand of pearls around her neck and a frying pan in her hand. It's a sign of courtesy and respect. My husband opened the door for me on our first date and 21 years later he still does even if we're in the garage! On the other hand he has no problem going to the grocery store or my painting the outside of the house. What's the big deal?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Category Romances I've Read in a Long Time!, February 27, 2002

This review is from: Hot As Ice (Code Name: Danger) (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Paperback)
I've read many of Merline Lovelace's books and this is a new favorite for me. She writes great heroines and this one is no exception. I love a woman who can take care of herself! Charlie is such a sexy hero. The chemistry between them. It's been so long since I've read something really different and fascinating from Silhouette like this. Hot as Ice was such a treat! The plot was original. The hero-adjusting-to-modern-life plot has been done to death in the time travel romances Silhouette and Harlequin published in the mid 90s. It was nice to see Lovelace concentrate on the action and adventure that makes this line special. This story requires some suspension of disbelief but the author made it ring true for me. I haven't been reading as many SIMs in the last few years. I got so sick of babies and cops and cowboys and amnesia. This one didn't have any of that, just an original romantic story. More like this and I'll have to start up again!
