This review is from: Hot Jobs: The No-Holds-Barred, Tell-It-Like-It-Is Guide to Getting the Jobs Everyone Wants (Paperback)
Here is the weird thing. This book is 10 years old. And I am a public interest lawyer who has worked in government and non-profits -- the very antithesis of the "hot jobs" in media and the arts that Charlie Drozdyk writes about in this book and its follow-up, "Jobs That Don't Suck." And yet, I swear to God...these are two of the best and most relevant job search books that I have ever read. The books are funny, practical and brutally honest about the truths inherent to the job search and, particularly, success on first jobs. Yet, at the same time, they are never discouraging -- the tone is very much so, "Look, these folks are no smarter and no cooler than you, but they have fabulous jobs! You should get one too." There are so many true lessons in these books, and two of his mantras -- "The person who wants it the most gets it" and "There's never jobs, and there's always jobs" -- have become life lessons for more interns that I have supervised over the years than Mr. Drozdyk will ever know. The best proof of all: so far, I've bought five copies of "Hot Jobs" and eight of "Jobs That Don't Suck", to hand out to people who are just graduating from college and/or law school and need help figuring out what to do next. Charlie Drozdyk, you should be really, really proud of these books. Please write another one soon!
