I had the vinyl of this back when it was new, the world and I were young, and Ronnie Earl was still Ronnie Earl Horvath. The band I was working for did some shows with them, & Ronnie gave me a copy - alas, it was destroyed in a flood in '96. I'm so glad it's on CD; I've listened to several of their other albums, and none comes close to this. Porky Cohen & Jimmy Wimpfheimer just smoke on "Caravan", and the title track alone is well worth the price of admission (as is the cover art, if you can see it - I miss LPs!). A must-have.

I have been a staunch follower of this band since I discovered them in 1980 and I have all of their recordings. This one is among the best of the about 20 albums the band has recorded so far. It's the first one with Ronnie Earl on guitar, replacing the former Duke Robillard, the first with Greg Piccolo as a lead singer besides playing tenor saxophone, and also the first where the horn section was augmented from 3 saxophones to a 5 piece set, including the late Porky Cohen on trombone and Danny Motta on trumpet. Jump blues, shuffle, Texas blues and even a couple of Duke Ellington compositions, "Caravan" and "Jeep's Blues", make this album a joyful and pleasant recording. Greg Piccolo sings with a deep and soulful feeling and Ronnie Earl's sensitive guitar prevents you from missing the great Duke Robillard. Al Copley's piano is also worth mentioning; his solo on "Sugar coated love" is breathtaking. Last but not least, the brilliant horn section arrangements and the rhythm sections make you swing and dance and the put the cherry on top. Highly recommended.

This is without a doubt one of the best blues recordings. Ronnie Earl is smokin' on t-bone walker's, two bones and a pick , guitar slim's sufferin' mind, and johnny watson's Hot little mama. Ronnie is one the best blues guitarists ever, a genious. The band swings and piccolos voice is excellent. If you enjoy the sound of this band you will like this CD. I like it and listen often to their great blues sound.

all that needs to be said about this one is that ronnie earl is playing guitar. nuff said.

I have several Roomful albums including Dance all night, turn it on turn it up and have found these guys to be one of the best blues recording artists I have ever heard next to B.B.King and Eric Clapton.
