The cart is simply the best buy for the money I've come across in a long while --it has only one minor flaw: if you use it with a larger (taller) bottle of Argon (I also have the spool gun and do aluminum welding with it), you will need to use a chunk of 2x4 or something to move the welder forward on the cart, else it will interfere with the gas hook up on the back of the welder.
It's a great combo for me, I use it quite a lot.
Prime shipping made it very affordable, better yet after I purchased the welder I went back to Amazon and noticed that the price jumped another hundred bucks.
I haven't had a chance to use the welder yet because I've got to pick up an Argon/CO2 bottle and some solid wire, hopefully soon I'll get to use it. Have a van that we have to replace panels on and this will come in very handy.
If your looking at this to do body panes then you'll want to invest in a bottle and solid wire, don't use flux core for thin sheet metal.
The cart seemed a bit flimsy until I got things tightened up, added a small plasma cutter to the bottom of the cart and now it's full.
Comes with plenty of extra tips, controls seem pretty straight forward, the welding handle/cord seems plenty long, the face mask is sort of cheesy but useful for a helper.
Overall this is a very very nice kit.
I would highly recommend this to a first timer up to a veteran welder who just needs something a bit more portable.
Come to think of it I do have a 15KW generator that's portable, this would be great to really make it a go anywhere welder for those out of the way repairs.
Final update on welder 28 May 2013
Finally got to use the welder over the weekend and found that the speed control failed to function. Investigated the problem and found the common lead from the speed control pot was not inserted fully in the mother board plug. After insertion the speed control functioned fine.
Started with the gas at 15 per the manufacturers recommendation and throttled it back to 10.
After fine tuning the current and wire speed welds were great.Read more ›
I plugged it in and it powered on fine. The fan was blowing and I could hear the click when I pulled the trigger but the drive wheel was not pulling the wire through. It wasn't moving at all. After fooling around with it for a few minutes I decided to unscrew the cover and have a look. I found that a negative lead running from the main capacitor was disconnected from the main board. It was cut too short so I couldn't just plug it back in. I had to add a section of wire to jump the gap. Weird problem but it worked and I haven't had any more problems with it.
