1.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all...A Hot Mess!
The story was a jumbled mess. No clarity, no substance, no debth, bad editing, and no positive characters. I have no idea of the story line, but the title says it all! Not worth the paper it was printed on.

5.0 out of 5 stars A HOT MESS is a MUST READ!, September 14, 2009
This review is from: A Hot Mess: Sin, Secrets and Scandal (Paperback)
S. James Guitard has defined himself as a writer with his latest novel, A HOT MESS! Set in the fictional Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, The author takes on adultery, corruption, murder, and various other scandals with the finesse of a preacher while managing to provide enough hilarious comic relief to keep the reader interested from sentence to sentence. Guitard delivers his message without preaching to his readers, a feat that is often hard to accomplish. EKG Literary Magazine gives A HOT MESS 5 stars for its edge of your seat suspense, its hilarious dialogue, and its ultimate message: God will see you through any situation if only you believe!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Fabulous, September 13, 2009
By
S Golden (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Hot Mess: Sin, Secrets and Scandal (Paperback)
After completing Delilah's Revenge, I anxiously anticipated the release of its sequel, A Hot Mess. And now, that I have finished reading it, I am close to speechless. A Hot Mess is just that...a hot mess! It is simply FABULOUS. Full of excitement, this novel takes readers on a journey of the characters' lives.

Coupled with the vivid descriptions of each character, the scandal and surprises laced throughout this novel create an action-packed page turner. While the message of redemption remains prevalent throughout, there is something for everyone in this book. It does not matter which character (or characters) you initially relate to, on some level, you will find yourself connecting with them all.

Moreover, even when you believe you have all figured out, an additional element of surprise presents itself. A Hot Mess met and far exceeded all of my expectations!

I do not know what lies ahead for these characters, but I certainly hope that we will have an opportunity to soon find out.

I highly recommend A Hot Mess (and the prelude, Delilah's Revenge) to every reader who appreciates mystery coupled with sin and surprises.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, September 5, 2009

I WAITED ALMOST TWO YEARS FOR THIS BOOK. AND IT WAS GREAT. I NEVER SAW SO MUCH DECEPTION, KILLING. LIES CHEATING, IN THE CHURCH. EVERYONE IS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH BROTHERS, PREACHERS YOU NAME IT. THE TITLE IS APPROPIATE. IT IS TRULY A "HOT MESS". I READ THIS BOOK IN A DAY AND 1/2. HOWEVER, IT LEFT ME HANGING JUST LIKE "DELILAH'S REVENGE". UNTIL I READ A "HOT MESS". HE MUST WRITE ANOTHER ONE. ALL OF THE GUILTY PARTIES HAVE TO BE RECKONED WITH. I CAN'T TELL ANY OF THIS STORY. YOU HAVE TO READ IT YOURSELF. AS A MATTER OF FACT. PURCHASE BOTH BOOKS.I PROMISE YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. READ "DELILAH'S REVENGE FIRST. THEN YOU WILL UNDERSTAND "HOT MESS" BETTER. AND IT IS TRULY, TRULY A MESS.

Loved the scandals in this book. It kept you guessing what would happen next. Everyone was involved in some way. Some unexpected things happened. I wonder will he write another one to keep the series going?????

He's a great writer, but sometimes reading his novels is like watching a soap opera or a really intense movie and it you blink you'll miss a main part and never catch up...besides, it's like he has 20 other stories or novels going on within one...hard to focus...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome - Highly Recommend, December 28, 2009

This review is from: A Hot Mess: Sin, Secrets and Scandal (Paperback)
The devil is a liar and GOD IS GOOD. What an awesome book. Entertaining and inspirational with lots of real life circumstances and issues facing the church, its members, and society as a whole. Everyone ain't gonna like it, but everybody ain't goin' to heaven either. The only thing I hated about this book was that it ended. I hope he writes another!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! Enjoyable twists and turns, December 27, 2009
This review is from: A Hot Mess: Sin, Secrets and Scandal (Paperback)
Loved it!!! Lots of drama and unexpected twists! I can see it being made into a movie. The storyline dealt with real issues of sin and scandal both in the church and outside of the church, and undoubtedly will make certain readers uncomfortable due to its unwavering truth. Highly recommending it for my book club and still thinking of the GODLY wisdom shared by Pastor David Josiah Goodwell. WOW!!
