Book Description (from the inside cover), July 11, 2007
This review is from: The Hot One - Chevrolet: 1955 - 1957 (Hardcover)
Backed by over 250 illustrations and eight color plates, 95 percent of them original factory prints, this fast-paced and readable book reveals the complete history of the great 1955-57 Chevys. See the '55 Chevrolet emerge from the fanciful early renderings of GM stylists, and work its way through the exciting facelifts of 1956 and 1957. Walk with Ed Cole and Harry Barr through the halls of GM Engineering, learning of the potent 265 and 283 V-8s, of Turboglide, fuel injection and "one HP per cubic inch." Watch Zora Duntov storm Pikes Peak, fuelies run at NASCAR. Learn all the decisions Chevy made - and didn't make - in the process of building these memorable cars, and who really won those great production races with Ford.
Beautifully designed and printed, this is undoubtedly the standard work on the 1955-1957 Chevrolet. But it's also an entertaining, enjoyable narrative you'll find hard to put down once you've started. Good reading!

One of the best books available on the 1955-56-57 Chevrolet, July 13, 2011
The author, Pat Chappell, did a very detailed and complete job with this book on the 1955-56-57 Chevrolet. The book details the pre-1955 model year happenings that gave Chevrolet the push for the 1955's, and how the next two years played out on the overall automobile market, with Chevrolet surpassing Ford production numbers in 1957 by less than 200 cars. The book also speaks on the next model years (1958 and beyond), the dawning of a new era for Chevrolet.
The book is no longer published, based upon my knowledge, so whatever comes up on the Internet remains. It is a great sourcebook for understanding the automobile market at that time, as well as understanding the Chevrolet models that were available for those 3 model years, as well as all of the exterior paint schemes, interior trims available, and production numbers by body style for the three years.
The book is good for automobile history buffs, as well as those who are pursuing the purchase of a 1955-56-57 Chevrolet, and want information on deciphering body styles, colors, accessories, and the like BEFORE their final purchase decision is made. The book is a near-MUST for those who are pursuing the purchase of a fully restored 1955-56-57 Chevrolet, lots of economy body styles (such as the one-fifty or two-ten model) have probably crossed the auction block and been the base for adding upscale body style (like Bel-Air trim), and the best way to know that is by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), but if you don't how to decipher the VIN, this leaves one vulnerable to the purchase of an imposter !
