These are just wonderful -- real, actual, crunchy, chewy, tasty Polish sausages pickled in hot vinegar. They're on the mild side of spicy, but still hot enough that you won't like them if you have a low tolerance for heat. (If, like me, you have a _high_ tolerance for heat, you may even wish they were a little hotter.)

They require no refrigeration, either before or after opening -- although they're said to best if eaten within 3-4 months. I don't think that's going to be a problem.

These are at the opposite end of the sausage spectrum from such more or less meatlike substances as Penrose Tijuana Mama Pickled Sausage 12 Pack and Jack Links Pickled Sausage, Screamin' Demon, 2.4-Ounce Packages (Pack of 24) (which I also like, but they're sausage the way pasteurized processed cheese food is cheese). If you like any sort of hot pickled sausage, give these a try; they may turn out to be your favorites.

By the way, there's another similar brand (also from Wisconsin) with which these shouldn't be confused: Lakeside also produces a red hot Polish sausage (also sold, if I'm not mistaken, under the Bay View brand). They look excellent too, but I haven't tried them yet and I'm not reviewing them here.

These were simply awesome! Packed well and very tasty! I have one complaint.... My sons went through the whole jar and I only got a few!
