Book Description

March 2005 Fizz & Buchanan Mystery
Solicitor Tam Buchanan and his friend and colleague Fizz Fitzgerald arrange to get away from it all on a hill-walking holiday in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. Unfortunately, their idyllic break is ruined when they witness a horrific car crash. Fizz and Buchanan hear the dying wish of the crash victim, a plea to protect the second passenger in the car, an elderly, amnesiac, alcoholic gentleman with a price on his head. Matters are made worse when they see the police make a murderous attempt on their charge’s life. With lives and careers in the balance, Fizz and Buchanan want to stay as far away from the law as possible until they solve the case!

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This seventh adventure pairing troublemaking Fizz Fitzpatrick and her employer, straight-arrow Tam Buchanan, finds the disparate duo tromping in the Scottish Highlands. Seeking a brief walking holiday away from their law firm in Glasgow, Fizz and Tam soon wish they had never left home. After witnessing a grisly car accident, they try (in vain) to help the driver, who, with her dying breath, elicits a promise from Tam to protect her passenger, an elderly man named Scott McKenzie. This innocent promise sets in motion a swashbuckling adventure, beginning with Scott's near murder by two police officers. As Tam and Fizz spirit him away, they realize they are now on the run from the law. Complicating matters further is Scott's seemingly permanent drunkenness, which has left him no idea who is after him or why. Filled with wry humor, ample suspense, and fabulous chemistry between the protagonists, this series goes down as smoothly as a wee taste of Glenmorangie. Jenny McLarin

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyce Holms epitomizes crime mystery with humour., March 24, 2003
Ms. Holms' 'Buchanan & Fizz' characters are so well drawn that in this, her seventh book starring the couple, the reader feels at home with them from the very first sentence.
From a start which has one 'hooked' from the first couple of pages, through a crime mystery which is solved at the end, the reader is taken along on a joyous ride within Edinburgh, Scotland's beautiful capital city and out into the surrounding countryside.
The other supporting characters are well drawn and, as always with Ms. Holms' books, interesting in their own right. The plot is unique, as are all this author's plots.
Each book is a story unto itself so if the reader can't find all of her books, although, I urge them to try, one can still enjoy each book to the fullest.
Fizz & Buchanan books would make a wonderful TV series.

This review is from: Hot Potato (Fizz & Buchanan Mystery) (Paperback)
This is one of the books in the Fizz & Buchanon series that is funny and very very fast paced! One of my favorite lines in the book is " ... he could feel the milk of human kindness turn to yogurt in his breast." I laughed out loud and then shared the line with many other folks. And that's just one of many!
The series is being reissued in the US, the first in the series is out and the 2nd is due soon.
