More About the Author

Suzann's mother taught her to read at age four, assuming a tomboy couldn't have her nose in a book and get into trouble, simultaneously. It didn't work, but somehow, Suzann's insatiable curiosity, smarty-pants mouth, tendency to make up stuff and love of Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden novels became the basis of a diverse writing career.

Suzann (www.SuzannLedbetter.com) is a Writers Hall of Fame of America inductee and received a Western Writers of America Spur Award for her biography, NELLIE CASHMAN, PROSPECTOR & TRAILBLAZER. Suzann was an editor-at-large for Family Circle magazine for over a decade and is a client of Greater Talent Network, an international talent agency.

In April 2006, Suzann's short story "How To Murder Your Mother-in-Law" will appear in Avon's DEADLY HOUSEWIVES anthology. May marks publication of her latest suspense/caper, ONCE A THIEF (Mira) and in August, SHADY LADIES, a biographical collection of 19th century nonconformists is due out from Tor/Forge.

Suzann and her husband share their Missouri Ozarks home with three retired racing greyhounds, two morbidly obese cats and way-more books than the children's library her mom hoped would tame the ornery streak Suzann allegedly inherited from her father's side of the gene pool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romantic suspense thriller, September 2, 2003
This review is from: In Hot Pursuit (Mass Market Paperback)
Over two decades ago, Police Officer Liz Rivas watches her husband Rick, a detective on the force, shot while both were off duty. Liz testifies against her spouse's murderer at the trial, but the Mafia hitman's lawyer manages to keep his client free. The Feds place Liz and her young son in the witness protection program.

For the next two plus decades, Liz has lived in Pfister, Missouri, as Jenna MacArthur, managing and operating the MacArthur's Park combo flee market and coffee shop. Her son now works as a cop. A stranger who looks vaguely familiar buys a Grisham novel from Liz. Paul Haggerty, a former cop, made a vow to Rick that he intends to keep. He found Liz via the Internet due to a site managed by her mother. As he and Jenna fall in love, he realizes he may have inadvertently brought danger to the woman he now cherishes.

This a strong romantic suspense thriller though why Rick's killer acts after two decades of walking the streets even if he risks eventual conviction is hard to grasp. Still the lead couple is a delight and the support cast adds the depth of small town Missouri into the mix. Fans of terse tales will be IN HOT PURSUIT of Suzann Ledbetter's fine novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense and magic ..., September 1, 2003
By
This review is from: In Hot Pursuit (Mass Market Paperback)
Twenty three years ago, policewowan Liz Rivas was widowed and to save her son's life, entered the witness protection program, disappearing into obscurity to reemerge as small town librarian Jenna MacArthur. Her life was peaceful, staid, and lonely, almost boring.

That all changes when a stranger enters town. Paul Haggerty is also a cop, and he has spent over two decades searching for Liz. Now that he has found her, what will happen. They are attracted, yes, but giving in to that could spell trouble. Jenna has spent too many years avoiding trouble to let something like love change that. It is not only her life that is getting more complicated and interesting though. Murder and scandal heat up the town, calling upon skills she has not had to use in a very long time.

***** Bringing together suspense and the magic of the ordinary in her trademark fashion, Ms. Ledbetter creates a new and believeable world filled with eccentrics who could easily be your own next door neighbors...
