Book Description

Alexandria Payne may be beautiful, but she’s also a formidable businesswoman. As a major player in the high-stakes world of corporate restructuring, she’s learned how to handle many different people and problems, but one thing she doesn’t know how to handle is a horse. Enter Jackson Morgan, a trainer who specializes in the Western event of cutting, in which a horse and rider work to separate a single cow from the herd. Alexandria hires him to teach her how to ride, so she can curry favor with Everett Covington, a crusty Texan whose trucking business Alexandria desperately needs to purchase in order to pull off a lucrative deal—and whose passion happens to be cutting horses.

The consummate city slicker, Alexandria gamely goes about learning the sport of cutting, but things get complicated when she starts to fall for the cowboy who’s teaching her. Soon she discovers that in order to acquire the trucking company she’s been chasing, she’ll have to rein in her emotions.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I love cowboys and writing a great cowboy hero is the most fun I've had in a long time.   When I wrote HOT QUIT I wanted to write something all my horsey friends would like.  I tried to take the excitement of cutting horses and blend it with a romance that would appeal to all readers.  I think there are a lot of readers who are looking for a traditional that they can share with their teen-age daughter or with their mother.  I hope HOT QUIT is one of those books.  I'm looking forward to the publication of my next book, and you can be sure it will have another great cowboy hero and a strong heroine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot Quit February 23, 2013

I like this book. First time reading Kathryn Roberts and look forward to reading more.
I like modern western style stories. And of course the reluctant romance with the happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read for horse lovers. February 20, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was a fun read with all sorts of details about cutting horses and competitions woven into a roller coaster love story. The author obviously knows horses and business. It's a book you pick up and want to finish the same day because it flows so well. The main characters were well defined and I believe the self absorbed qualities of the heroine were an essential part of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD. January 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author does a beautiful job of showing the developing relationship between Alex and Jackson. She also gives the reader an informed look into the world of corporate raiders. When Jackson proposes at the end of the novel the writing is very moving and beautiful. I give it five stars. SHEILA HUNTINGTON, author of MORNING GLORY WOMAN.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun book March 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A nicely written romance novel that introduces one into the world of the rancher, and the "working" horses that are so important to maintaining a healthy herd of cattle. I felt that the tale was woven around the factual nature of the business of training and performing tasks with the horses in a delightful and informative way, and the story of romance and loss and persistence and work ethics was simply fun to read. Then characters are nicely developed, and the story is credible, and you always feel like your siding with the protagonist(s) and rooting for their ultimate success as they struggle with their respective personal challenges and goals.

4.0 out of 5 stars great story about horses.
Enjoyed reading a story concerning the training and understanding of horses. The story of two people who shared this love of horses and eventually each other was an added bonus.

More About the Author

It is fascinating to me that something as abstract as a feeling or emotion can be put into print form and then magically produce the same emotion when a reader reads. Bringing life to the horsey people I know and love is exciting for me and I can't wait to share heroes and heroines who live the code of the West in today's fast-paced world.

I was born in South Dakota but now lives in California. I've been a horse nut from the word go, and have always been involved in some sort of horsey activity from 4-H leader, to Queen coordinator for California High School Rodeo, to team roping with her husband.

I graduated with a degree in agriculture from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, but my love of writing has led me to a Commendation by the California State Office of Emergency Services for formalizing techniques and practices in mounted search and rescue and a regional service award from the Romance Writers of America.

Whether I'm teaching beginners to ride, or teaching them to work a cow or rope, I keep an eye out for interesting things to write about. Of course, all my heroes are cowboys, all my women are strong, and all my romances have traditional values at heart.
