5.0 out of 5 stars A lively, entertaining and extremely talented band at play., May 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hot Rize Presents Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers (Audio CD)
This schizophrenic group has two completely different sides, Hot Rize and Red Knuckles. This CD wanders back and forth across the country blue grass line- intentionally. The musicians are very accomplished and slip smoothly from slide guitar to banjo picking. It is not a mainstream CD, but very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best Hot Rize CDs out there!, July 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hot Rize Presents Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers (Audio CD)
this is one of the best red nuckles and hot rize cds out there. It gives the listener a mix of the traditional bluegrass and the more honky tonkish music. Tim O'Brian and Red realy can sing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Campy, yet great, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Hot Rize Presents Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of the history of music, like me -- you do not want to be without this album. The covers of some standards bring new life to the music. It is clear by the nature and by the history of this group that they are campy, yet the more you listen to it the more it appears as an actual art. An example of the leangth to which they go to infuse the music with the maximum ammount of fun is that they make up a totally fake band for the old country and western sound. I have seen them live and know that they take turns leaving stage and becoming the alter-ego. Hot Rize/ Trailblazers is a lovely experiance and should be a part of every collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Western Style Swing (Not Country), March 26, 2009

This review is from: Hot Rize Presents Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers (Audio CD)
Red Knuckles is an infectious mix of Blue Grass & western Swing... not so much "country Music" although that seems to confuse almost everybody. That said: If you are a Western Swing fan this is a fantastic record just stuffed with bee-bop style jazz solo's and a well crafted song list...

This is a beautiful Sunday morning stroll of a classic Western Swing Record...

If dancing in the living room and singing in the kitchen are some of your favorite things, this is just what you're looking for...

May Swing records be passed on to the next generation... this is an art that will be missed if it is allowed to slip away

5.0 out of 5 stars For fans of good music, period., December 30, 2006
This review is from: Hot Rize Presents Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers (Audio CD)
I admit, I was a tad skeptical going into the purchase of this album. I've been a Hot Rize fan for some time now, but have generally kept away from Red Knuckles based on the thought of it tainting the image in my brain of the tight, flawless grass band that is Hot Rize. What I found upon first listen, and something that strengthens with each listen, is that not only do Red Knuckles play western swing, or rockabilly, or whatever you want to call it, but they do it as good or better than any band my ears have ever heard. Case in point, just sample "Wabash Cannonball." What you'll find are tight rhythms, thumping bass lines and a voice that seems so incredibly fit for the style of music, you'll wonder what it's been doing servicing itself to bluegrass. Is Red Knuckles better than Hot Rize? I think it's apples and oranges, but what I can say is that both bands deserve a listen, if for anything, to witness a phenomenal band at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Knuckles Rock!, February 24, 2006

Big fan of Hot Rize and Tim O'Brien. Red Knuckles and the Trailblzers give us a different and thoroughly entertaining and convincing alternative side to the Hot Rize boys. Rockabilly may, in fact, be their true calling.
