110% authentic 1954 sounding rockabilly...,
This review is from: Hot Rod Girl (Audio CD)
This girl really sounds retro from her hot guitar licks to her Wanda Jackson influenced vocals(though she sounds more like what Wanda sounds like today, then Wanda did in the 1950's). This cd swings, rocks, jumps, and is full of energy, and at times even has a western swing or hillbilly boogie feel to it, sounding as though it had bee nrecorded circa 1954! Great job Josie, keep on recording 50's sounding music that both rocks and swings at the same time!

Josie is the kind of woman tha tevery man fantasizes about, she just may have the perfect figure and innocent face, a real live Varga girl, a 1950's pinup girl come to life! Well look past that and judje her for her msuic which is all at once swinging, and rocking. It hints at jazz, and hillbilly boogie. Her vocie is unique and autheticly 1950's sounding. She does NOT sound like Wanda, Janis, or Barbara. She sounds closer to a hillbilly version Billie Holiday! A great cd, great songs and a cool cover.

Real Roots Rockabilly at Its Best!,
By Rosemary Basil (New Orleans, LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hot Rod Girl (Audio CD)
If I could recommend one cd that makes you experience real rockabilly as it was sung in the 50's, this is it! This cd is original and rockin!!! one of those rare gems that has so many excellent tracks it is well worth the money, there's a cut for everyone. It is not for those who do not understand or appreciate roots music and the honest vocals that accompany this art form. Ms. Kreuzer is an original--no clone of a soprano from commercial country radio stations ad nauseum. Her songwriting and vocals remind me of Hank Williams Sr. with a yelp and hiccup ala Wanda Jackson or Patsy Cline. The haunting blues ballad, "One Way Love" gives me shivers like many Bessie Smith or Billie Holiday songs do, you are in the singer's heart and soul. Josie's got soul! Get in your hotrod and listen to "Runaway Train" and "Wild Man" on a sunny day on the open highway and forget the tedium of 9-5. Dance to "Ball that Jack" in a juke joint in the boonies. I think this cd will be heralded as one of the new classics in years to come. This is REAL rockabilly, raw and wild, not for mainstream posers! Get it!!

This might the best rockabilly album of the past 10 years. It includes some great tunes like My So-called Boyfriend, I Waited Up and Wild Man. Every song features great guitar playing and a hypnotic backbeat.
There is probably no such thing as a Josie Kreuzer groupie but, if there was, I'd be one of them. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Rockabilly with a half teaspoon of country,
By Steve Perry (Australia) - See all my reviews

I loved this CD.It is Rockabilly with a half teaspoon of country with the tempo ratcheted up a few notches.Loved the song "Dead man walking",starting off with the death march tune and leading into a pumping beat that gets the hands and feet tapping as I drive along in my 5 LITRE V8. I loved the line from "so called Boyfriend", "Had a few cocktails, well more than just a few,but heck I wasn't paying". A great CD and well worth the money.I went out and bought her 2 other CDs.

Josie's debut--- still a classic!,
By BillyCat (ARK, USA) - See all my reviews

I know there are 'billys out there who don't like Josie's voice... but I LOVE it... To me it's actually better than Marti Brom's or Candye Kanes-- it's more expressive somehow.
On this, her debut CD from old '97, Josie uses that voice to incredible advantage on cuts like "Long Dark Night" and "Ain't Got a Thing," the latter being the only credible cover of Sonny Burgess I have ever heard (and I've heard dozens!) Josie (backed here by Hot Rod Lincoln) sounds like Skeeter Davis working out with the Perkins brothers in about 1959-- the music has that much cred with me... So if you like rockabilly and female honky tonk give this disc a try... her voice may be an acquired taste, but once you acquire it... you'll be beggin' 'er back.

For all you rockabilly fans out there, this album is the real deal. Josie has a great voice for this type of music, as well as the passion to put it across as heartfelt musical expression rather than some ersatz "nostalgia" trip. The comparisons to Wanda Jackson are valid up to a point [after all, Wanda wrote the book] but there is a unique individuality here as well. She also swings on second guitar behind her rockin' cohorts, Hot Rod Lincoln. Another pleasant surprise is the quality songwriting, featuring witty lyrics as well as genuine wild beats. As others have mentioned, she is very easy on the eyes, but it is, and has to be, the music that does the talking. Keep on rockin' Josie.
