The soundtrack to the surprisingly original, at times bizarre, always hilarious comedy "Hot Rod" is awesome! The music selection was one of the best things about the movie, thankfully someone was smart and released a soundtrack that is all it should be!
Every fun 80's song I loved in the film is here, however the price of the album is well worth it for "Cool Beans" alone...I can't believe they included that and I could not be happier about it! One of the best things about the Hot Rod soundtrack is the inclusion of the fantastic segments of original instrumental music by Trevor Rabin, which tends to remind me of Tangerine Dream. Some tracks are also one-liners or dialogue from the movie which is something that normally annoys me mainly because it tends to be far, far overused and poorly executed (i.e. the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack--geez!) but in this case it is just right and seamlessly implemented with the music. I think a lot of people will love the nostalgic 80s tunes from the film and can fully enjoy the soundtrack even if they did not like the movie, maybe even if they have not seen the movie (although the dialogue and "Cool Beans" will be completely lost on them which would be a shame). Bottom line: Great selection of fun songs and instrumental score arranged together perfectly. This is everything I want out of a soundtrack!

...you borderline have to purchase this soundtrack. Full of up-tempo '80s ballads, killer beats, and quotes from the movie, it's more than worth the price. Since Amazon doesn't have a preview, here's the track listing:
1. Ancestors Protect Me (Dialogue) 2. Danger on the Track (Europe) 3. A Gringo Like Me - Peter Tevis 4. Never - Moving Pictures 5. I Just Found a Bag of Fireworks (Dialogue) 6. Two of Hearts - Stacey Q 7. Cherokee - Europe 8. Skulls - Misfits and Nutley Brass 9. Street Luge - Trevor Rabin 10. Going on a Date (Dialogue) 11. You're the Voice - John Farnham 12. Head Honcho - Gown 13. Thrust Away - DJ Rumpleskillzkid 14. And That's How It's Done (Dialogue) 15. Chade - Giorgio Moroder 16. Cool Beans 17. (I Just) Died in Your Arms - Cutting Crew 18. I've Got This Acid 19. Dave on Acid - Trevor Rabin 20. Rock the Night - Europe 21. Stunt Suite - Trevor Rabin 22. Time Has Come - Europe 23. Gods of War (Dialogue) Cool beans is an EXTENDED version which adds a lot more to the original. And, in case anyone was wondering (like I was) what inspirational ballad played during the march/riot scene, it was John Farnham's "You're The Voice.

Loved This,
This review is from: Hot Rod (Audio CD)
The soundtrack has a nice mix of songs to cater to the varied and random taste of any hipster in their late 20's. "Two of Hearts" and "Never" took me back to my days of jelly bracelets and gravity defying bangs. There are plenty of terrible power ballads to rock out to, and a few techno-ish tracks thrown in for good measure. However, it's the last track, the unlikely "Cool Beans" gangsta rap featuring B-Legit, that makes this soundtrack a real winner. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie, and now I've been pleasantly surprised by the soundtrack.
