4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't pay full price
My four year old son absolutely adores cars and anything that makes them go on their own. So when we found this little puppy for half off the original price, we snatched it up, thinking it would provide hours of enjoyment. Well, it did. For about a week. In the end, the best part of the toy (the plane that goes flying when you launch a car into it) was destroyed. It's...

2.0 out of 5 stars Get Octoblast Instead
Great commercials will get you to buy this toy, but its hard to put together and needs constant adjusting to work. Once put together, kids' toys should just work without tinkering. The parts don't stay in place and it just does these little one -shot gimmicks. Hot Wheels are a fun part of any boys' toy chest, but if you want a Hot Wheels toy that plays like it should,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Another low quality toy from Hot Wheels, September 22, 2003

This toy is actually fairly fun, it's a shame that it continually falls apart just from normal use. It's almost impossible to keep it in one piece. I'd have thought that they would figure out how to make the pieces stay together.

2.0 out of 5 stars A total waste of time and money!, October 14, 2003

My son loved the "idea" of this toy, had to have it for Christmas. My husband and I spent a huge amount of time trying to assemble it and it broke almost immediately. They cried and were frustrated. It is also very large to store and doesn't disassemble easily (except by the breaking). I won't be purchasing another item from this company!

It's made out of foam so I'm sure you can imagine how easy it is for an enthusiastic, active child to rip it to shreds. I was constantly having to put the stupid thing back together because if my son so much as dropped a shirt on it, something fell off. All in all, he played with it for about a week (not sure it was even that long), had fun demolishing it every once in a while for another month or so...then it ended up in the trash. Don't think I'll ever purchase something from this company ever again. Even $5 bucks would be a waste. For that amount, you could buy 3 cars and a sheet of plastic to run 'em on. It would definitely last longer.

Hot Wheels toys are notorious for falling apart and Turbo Jet City is no exception. Be prepared to glue, and re-glue the plane back together since it is made of foam and even mild play will cause the wings to break off. Also, set it up in a spot where you won't have to move it because any movement causes it to come apart. There are numerous parts that will eventually get lost under the sofa, or worse, you'll find them by stepping on them in your bare feet.

Don't buy it for your 3-year-old. Having it fall apart and the plane breaking so often will be extremely frustrating for a child who is not old enough to participate in the re-building or re-glueing process. For 5-year-olds and older, that might be part of the fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Breaks very easily, August 16, 2003

My son loved this toy, but I was very dissatisfied with the quality of the product. It was very difficult to put together and didn't stay together very well. It also broke very easily. For something that costs that much it should be of better quality.

I have to agree with the other reviewers on this item. It is not durable and the instructions were non-existant. It is fun though when it is all together and working properly.

My boys (5 & 2) really liked this toy but we had a lot of trouble keeping it put together. The wings on the styrofoam plane broke rather easily. At the discount price this toy is a buy. But at the full price I paid last Christmas, I'm disappointed in the durability & assembly.

The kids love this toy. However, it was difficult to assembly and the jet is really flimsy and broke the third day. Moreover, Mattel does not have replacement parts for this set.

This was given to our son as a gift. Once all of the pieces are put together, some of them do not stay together. Some of the so-called functioning parts never worked right even when everything was set up properly. My son lost interest in it VERY quickly.
