We bought this for our 7 year old for his birthday and it did take some time to put together but it was worth it - FINALLY a hot wheels set that stays together!!! My only complaint is that it is kinda loud and the cars go really fast (watch your fingers)- so I would not recommend for anyone under 7.

My 8-year-old son just bought this last night with some of his birthday money. I was a little leery after reading the other review here, but I must say our set has proved that wrong. It was scarey to put together, since it came in about 20 pieces, but the directions were clear and the pieces alphabetized. Once we got all our A's and B's matched up and the clips clicked in tight, we were good to go in less than 30 minutes. It took a couple of tries to get the timing of releasing the car just right, but, again, once we got it, the car just flew through the hoops and my son had defeated the snake! I would, however, say that this is definitely not for under age 7 or 8.

Every year we end up with one of these Hot Wheels sets under the Christmas tree. Each set looks more ridiculous than the last ("volcano blaster" was our first). This toy has hardly anything I look for; there is zero educational value and the set rarely lasts past Valentine's Day (parts go missing or get stepped on, batteries die, cars can't be found)and it's just darn impossible to get it back in the box to store it neatly anywhere. But while these Hot Wheels sets are around they are just pure, pure wonderful fun and worth every penny we spend on them. The best part (for me) is my sons, their uncle and their father spend a lot of time putting the set together and then hours playing with it together. They laugh themselves sick and I never regret buying one of these toys. Also, if you are thinking about this set for Christmas don't delay too long. Some years I've waited and they have become hard, or impossible, to find closer to Christmas.

I have had so many hotwheels tracks before i can't count them all, but I will say that this one definitley is the most durable and exciting, but keep away from a 6 and under age group!!! the cars hurt when they hit you! the octoblast set is also pretty exciting as well, so if you like or your child liked the serpent cyclone you may also want to consider the octoblast track

We bought this for my nearly-5-year-old son a month or so back and he and his dad spent the rest of the evening putting it together. There is educational value there: my son learns how to follow directions and my husband learns how to give them. I do not agree that this toy is only for 7 and above; my son plays well with it, and plays with it frequently...which is more than I can say for some of the Matchbox playsets we've gotten him. I'd go for it again in a heartbeat.

Set it up for two boys - 8 yr old and 4 yr old. Track would not stay together. Very frustrating. One car - accessories fell off on the first try. Great idea but did not work well.

We love the octoblast.

I bought this toy for my son for his 5th birthday. I almost didn't because of some of these reviews, but I am so glad I did. He loves it and doesn't have any trouble playing with it. He even helps my 2 year old pull the trigger so he can play with it too. We've had it for over a month now and it has yet to fall apart, so I'd say it's pretty durable, too. We are very pleased with this toy and would recommend it.

This is a great hot wheels track. We got it for our son for christmas. He is 5 years old and he loves it! So do his father and I. We have it so that he doesn't play with it alone. That is 1) so he doesn't leave it on and run the batteries down, and 2) because the cars do go extremly fast. The only problem I have with it, is that it is VERY, VERY loud. My husband, and son, however, seem to think the louder the better. I can't comment too much on durability yet, but it seems better constructed than some of the others.

My son, age 4 yrs, was very interested in this track. We purchased it and brought it home to assemble. The noise level when the cars pass through each loop is loud and the cars frequently get stuck in the tunnels that maintain vehicle speed. The noises from this track scared my son and he no longer plays with it. He has a younger sibling who cried when it was in use also. I think we will stick with the tracks that are not as complex.

My 7 year old wanted this and when we brought it home it broke within the week. He is not particularly tough on toys and I found the whole thing cheaply made.
