Product Description

The original Batcycle designed for the TV series was built from a Yamaha Catalina 250. The attached sidecar featured a portable go-cart with its own Yamaha engine that propelled off the sidecar when Batman slowed down or stopped. The Batcycle was customized with "bat-shield" molded into the fairing and fender guard. . . This review is from: Hot Wheels Batman 1:50 Scale 1966 TV Series Batcycle Diecast (Toy)
Although this Hot Wheels diecast is nowhere near as accurate as it's companion piece, the 1:50 scale 1966 TV Batmobile, it's still a nice little replica. Informed sources claim that it's based on the old 60's Aurora model kit, scaled down, and a visual comparison of the two does show several matching details.

To be truthful, the toy should more accurately be described as 1:30 scale, as it is larger in comparison to the Batmobile than an actual 1:50 scale toy would be, but if it was in scale to the car, it would be tiny.

While some shapes and proportions are a bit off, it's still a nice looking piece that represents the bike seen in the 1966 movie, and most of the television series, pretty well ( this design was actually the second used - in an early episode there was a far more generic looking cycle, used only once ).

Robin's sidecar go-kart is included and is held in the package by a piece of monofilament, but have no fear; once the filament is removed, the kart can be secured in place in the sidecar on a small post.

Despite it's size, this is more of a display item for the adult collector, rather than a toy for a modern child. While the bike and go-kart do roll, the steering is fixed, and a child would probably be less than enthused about playing with it (especially since there are no accompanying figures of Batman and Robin.

Still for the adult Batman fan, it's a nice little replica that will look very attractive sitting on a shelf or desk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot Wheels Bat Cycle, February 12, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Hot Wheels Batman 1:50 Scale 1966 TV Series Batcycle Diecast (Toy)
Surprisingly, there is a lot of detail in the toy. It is very unique in that I have never seen the batcycle available before. I remember seeing the bat boat and bat copter and of course the batmobile, but this is the first time in memory that the bat cycle has been produced. The quality is exceptional. Although I don't know how durable it is since I have no plans for opening it.

Very detailed. A great collection piece. Part of the sidecar actually detaches and becomes a small vehicle for Robin. Very happy with the detail from the "Batman" TV show.
