Product Description

Editorial Review

In a sort of "King Kong meets roller coaster" theme, this game requires that cars race to stop this angry gorilla from doing harm to vehicles and drivers. In automatic mode, the motorized booster launches cars vertically up the 30-inch tower of track and through hair-splitting upside-down spirals on the way down. The tricky spot comes after the loops, where cars must avoid getting smashed by the ferocious gorilla’s pounding fist and knocked through the trap door into a cage. A diverter lever switches cars to an alternate descending track with a different peril to avoid—the gorilla’s other gigantic hand. This time, the gorilla tries to grab vehicles off the track to crush them within his powerful jaws. The gorilla "wins" after munching a car four times but kids can also beat the gorilla by completing 10 laps. With each finished lap, a stun gun on the roller coaster’s base raises another notch into the air until it finally fires, knocking the gorilla out cold. The game can be set to manual mode for two players, allowing one person to be the racer and another to control the ape. Although complicated to set up, online animated instructions for this playset speed up the construction; however, adult assistance is definitely required. This track set requires four "D" batteries. --Cristina Vaamonde

Product Description

A rampaging gorilla with smashing fists and chomping teeth is threatening the amusement park! Watch as the gorilla's fist pounds cars off track, while his other hand diverts the cars into his mouth. Experience high speeds, stunts and crashing action as you race to aim the stun gun at the gorilla before he destroys the roller coaster. Motorized track also features manual override so you and your friends can play the part of the gorilla, too. Requires 4 "D" batteries (not included). Measures approximately 26" x 22" x 31" when set up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Too Bad for Hot Wheels, November 22, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Hot Wheels: Gorilla Attack Track Racing Set (Toy)
First, I am not a Hot Wheels fan. I've been disappointed too many times with their shoddy products and can't believe Mattel has been profiting on this line of toys for so long.

That said, I must admit this toy is not too bad. My five-year-old son wanted to buy it with his birthday money. Assembly was not as laborious as previous Hot Wheels products, such as Swamp Beast. He has been playing with this set all afternoon and it hasn't even fallen apart yet!

I wouldn't say it is very loud, and it doesn't make any highly irritating sounds.

All in all, I have to say I would recommend this toy.

P.S. My son wants to add a few words: I love it when my dad plays with me. Gorilla Attack is great. I love it when the cars go in the Gorilla's mouth, and I love it when the Gorilla smashes the cars into the cage. I love it when the Gorilla gets hit and falls over.

Bought it for my son for good grades, took a little bit of time to put together , but well worth it, he had so much fun. Very loud though, place somewhere there is carpeting. He likes to race the cars, and soemtimes Dad even comes to play!

2.0 out of 5 stars It's going back to the store tomorrow :(, April 9, 2006

A few reason not to get it . My biggest complain being not every hotwheels will work on it. In fact I tested all the hotwheels my son has and none works except the one come with the set. 2 el cheapo small cars worked but couldn't stand the abuse of the Turbo Booster .

Other than that the track is very high speed, and it fails about 1 out of 10 times even with the stock car. It hasn't shoot the car out that can harm my son but mother and grandma is very worried. Also the hand of the gorilla suppose to hit a lever and hummer the car into a car cage. But when I set the set on carpet the gorilla misses the lever all the time. It works better on kitchen floor but the manual says make sure to set it on "carpet". I guess it's going back to the store tomorrow.

I would had kept it if most hotwheels will run on the track. I bought it from Toy R Us and their display used just every hotwheels there is. I guess they never test it and it's very miss leading.
