Amazon.com Review

Fight for control of the living room! Green army men are attacking the television right during cartoon hour, and only another toy--in this case a souped-up jet--can ensure the safety of the viewing family.

Put simply, Hot Wheels Jetz is a game that allows players to fly combat missions that pit toy against toy inside a simulated home. Taking off from a child's bedroom, players blow up rogue dump trucks and missile launchers, and attack blimps, tanks, and other hostiles. Along the way, they dodge couches and kitchen furniture, working ever closer to their targets and homing in on bonus rings. Flying through a ring can earn players a plane repair, a brace of missiles, or even new aircraft for use in later missions.

With only 10 missions in its gaming campaign, Hot Wheels Jetz is a game that adept flyers will finish quickly. It stresses simplicity over variety--the house never changes, and once gamers have the mechanics of flight worked out, the milieu is very forgiving. Hitting a wall or other impediment causes the plane to bounce rather than to crash outright, and targeting enemies does not require pinpoint accuracy so much as a willingness to expend lots of ammunition. In these respects, it makes an excellent game for kids interested in an introduction to combat flight simulators: it is easy to play and moderately paced. Even so, players already familiar with this type of game will find it too simple, and experienced pilots should look for their next combat fix elsewhere.

Flight simulator newbies and kids especially fond of action toy stories will enjoy Hot Wheels Jetz, though, with its combat-inside-the-home concept, clean graphics, and straightforward battle premises. --Alyx Dellamonica

2.0 out of 5 stars Jetz trouble, July 27, 2003
This review is from: Hot Wheels Jetz (CD-ROM)
This game has a lot of potential for entertaining kids. However, I've had the same trouble as the other listings. We can never move on to another mission because the system always fails and I have to physically reboot time and time again! It's very frustrating for my 5 year old son who just loves the game. Too bad that THQ doesn't have much of a customer support program. Maybe they know the troubles and don't wish to accept responsibility.

1.0 out of 5 stars More installation problems, September 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hot Wheels Jetz (CD-ROM)
The earlier review had it right -- I also can't get this game to run, with the same symptoms he/she described. I have tried it on 2 different systems, Win98 and Win XP, with the same results. This is the only game so far that has failed to work on these systems.
There is no troubleshooting information provided with the product. Mattel's and THQ's web sites have absolutely NO support information for this game.

If/when I hear from THQ support (they predict a 2-business day turnaround for email support requests), I'll add another review.

Save your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fly, fire, fun!, November 22, 2001

This review is from: Hot Wheels Jetz (CD-ROM)
This game rocks. After a very simple installation, it ran quite well. Best when used with a Joystick, it takes a bit of getting used to as far as control goes, but once you have it down, it's a lot of fun! There could be more levels, but the free-fly mode lets you wander around shooting little army men, and you can go through the levels again and again. At the price, it's well worth the money, and I'm sure I'll keep coming back to play it again and again! (If you like Toy Commander, this is an exceptional game to satisfy your 'needs' on the PC!)
