4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun!
I did read all the reviews before I bought this and I'm really glad I went ahead and got it anyway. I figured for the price, knowing my kids are young and aren't too picky with how many times a car goes around a track and knowing how much they like to crash their cars, it was worth a try.

My husband put this together tonight(took about 1/2 hour) and the family...

I got this product on deep discount at amazon for my son (3 years old) for Christmas. He was pretty excited to get it, so I put it together on Christmas day. It took about a half hour to set up - it's easy, the instructions are clear, and the parts that match are labeled as matching.

The track layout is very cool, and having the option to switch tracks and launch the little flags is a lot of fun for my son. It's a marvel of engineering, and a toy that I would have had a lot of fun with myself as a kid.

The only issue that I have is that at full charge, the car only sometimes makes the loop through the tunnel and out the other side. More often than not, it either jumps the track or gets stuck looping in the tunnel. My son thinks both are hilarious, and having these happen less frequently would probably make me happier with the purchase.

I did read all the reviews before I bought this and I'm really glad I went ahead and got it anyway. I figured for the price, knowing my kids are young and aren't too picky with how many times a car goes around a track and knowing how much they like to crash their cars, it was worth a try.

My husband put this together tonight(took about 1/2 hour) and the family had a blast playing with it. When it was first put together the car would always jump the track in the same spot, but my husband adjusted the track connection a bit and there wasn't one problem after that. We got the car to lap around the track at least 3 times on most attempts before the car either jumped the track(which the kids thought was funny) or one of the kids blocked it or pulled it off to start it over again. They seem to have more fun charging the car and setting it off than seeing it go around numerous times. My 3yr old son would push down the tab on the ramp to have the car go around the tunnel over and over. They all needed a little help with charging the car but were easily getting the hang of it and they are 5, 3 and 2yrs old.

I highly recommend this toy for the price of $14.99. I think full price would have been too expensive. The only down side I see is that it only comes with one car and it might be hard to replace the specialty car. I'll have to look around the net to see what I can find.

Mattel should be ashamed to sell something as poorly constructed as this. Commercial shows car performing perfectly but after 50 attempts, we could not complete one loop. One very disappointed son. Not only does product not work, you must also have special car, just not any Hot Wheels will work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Temperamental but kids love it anyway, February 25, 2007
This review is from: Hot Wheels Turbo Glo Turbo Tunnel Track Set (Toy)
My kids love this set, even though it rarely works as it is supposed to. The car often comes off the track, falls over in the tunnel or keeps going round and round in circles in the tunnel instead of going back onto the tracks. Fortunately my kids think these bugs are features -- watching it go round and round in the tunnel is kind of cool, and the kids and the dog think it is great fun to chase the car when it runs off the track. Still, I think it is a bit disappointing that it only get through the regular course about half the time, and only very rarely successfully gets through the overhead alternate track.

It was a pain to put together. The clear plastic tunnel walls were very hard to fit, despite the combined efforts of my husband and I.

At first we thought that our set was missing the special Glo car. We would have called Mattel for a replacement but when I was flattening the box to put it in the recycling I discovered that the car was in a tiny little compartment way up in one corner. If you open the box from the other end it would be very easy to miss the car as you can't see the cardboard compartment unless you use shine a flashlight into the box.

I don't think the set is worth the full retail price, but amazon's 70% off price made it worthwhile.

The track set is supposed to include 1 turbo glo car. After putting the track together on my son's birthday, I realized that there was no car included, and regular Hot Wheels cars DO NOT work on this track. I called Hot Wheels/Mattel and was told they'd send me a voucher for a car. Only after telling them it was ridiculous to only send a voucher for what should have been in the package in the first place did the representative offer me a voucher for two cars (not exactly customer-service minded). I have tried Target & another regional Target-like store & have yet to find the cars, so I still have a useless cheaply made plastic track sitting in my family room. Needless to say, my son & I are NOT satisfied.

I have never been as disappointed in a product for a child as this tunnel track. It was a nightmare to put together and never worked properly. It was a gift for a friend's grandson. After spending Christmas Day trying to assemble it, they brought it over to my house as nothing ever defeats me. I was so digusted that I got out a 33-gallon trash bag and threw it away; I was too mad to even pack it up and return it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, January 17, 2007
This review is from: Hot Wheels Turbo Glo Turbo Tunnel Track Set (Toy)
Sheer frustration to put together. The car (ONLY ONE SPECIAL CAR!) would'nt hold a charge for long enough to do one full lap. Now the charger part doesn't even rev up without some fiddling. I changed the 3 D batteries twice in a very short period before throwing this track in the garage.

2.0 out of 5 stars VERY DISSAPOINTED!!, December 29, 2006
This review is from: Hot Wheels Turbo Glo Turbo Tunnel Track Set (Toy)
I wish I had only paid the 14.99 for this item. I paid the outrageous price of 39.99! The last Hot Wheels track we got worked really well, so I had high hopes for this one! The cars NEVER stay on the tracks! It has gone around a maximum of three times and it always jumps the track! My son loves it when it works but is VERY frustrated!

I was disappointed with this product. I wish there had been some reviews before I purchased it. It took about a half hour to put together. The car comes off the track or flops over often although it does sometimes right itself. The most I have been able to get is eight laps with one charge and without it coming off the track. Three laps is probably the average. The cars are very fast and if it comes off the track, the cars go zipping around, crashing into things which my three year old finds funny. When the car comes off the track and zips around, it sometimes runs into a room with carpeting. The wheels quickly build up with carpet fuzz and hair which you need a tweezers to remove.

4.0 out of 5 stars My boys love this set, February 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hot Wheels Turbo Glo Turbo Tunnel Track Set (Toy)
It's odd when there are so many negative reviews, and one's own experience does not seem to match the experience of others. My three boys, ages 6, 8, and 10 have really enjoyed the Turbo Glo Tunnel set. Unlike many of the other Hot Wheels sets, which can be extremely finicky and quite often do not work as advertised, this one has been great fun. I assume it is partly due to the fact that it uses special cars designed just for this product.

I did not find it difficult to put together. The clear plastic sheets that make the tunnel were a bit of a challenge, but once I got it in place, it worked just fine (though I had my doubts). The rest of the connections are really, in my opinion, better than the typical Hot Wheels set. I would say I'm a HW veteran to some extent, having played with them as a boy and now with my own kids. That might be part of the reason I didn't have trouble.

Parents need to remember that kids don't mind if the toy doesn't work perfectly and consistently every single time. My boys liked the challenge of seeing if they could make all three of the orange arrows shoot off. We have not had battery issues, and I was surprised how long the cars would run on a single charge (we have three extra cars in addition to the one that came with the set), and how long the batteries have lasted in the charger. Our experience there has not been the same as others who have posted, but I don't know why.

I do recommend getting a large storage bin for this item, so you don't have to take it completely apart every time you put it away. It makes it a lot easier to get out and play with the next time if you only have to attach a few sections together.

For the current $12.15 price, this toy is truly a bargain. For less than $30 (the price for the set on other sites), you can get the track set plus two extra cars, and free shipping. Not a bad deal!
