probably not for under ten years old; but for sentimental old fools it is just fine,

The landing gear on this toy replica aren't very resilient or sturdy, so a kid that is rough on their toys will have this plane beat up pretty quick. I bought this to have on my desk because of how much I enjoyed the story about an adventure to Peru in Chester Isaiah Muncie's third book, "The Comedy Of Interaction In Human Relationships," which is a short story of under half a dozen chapters among a potpourri of topics in 33 chapters that are Volume 3 of that set of books. It's holding up fine for a sentimental old fool like me. But as a toy for kids to play with, I'd wager the landing gear or propellor might not keep their shape. Other than that, the detail is pretty good, and helps me visualize the aforementioned story elements. For the money, this little metal toy plane is satisfying. Oh and like you've never bought a toy as an adult just for fun. Go ahead and buy it. I won't tell anybody.

Ordered one, missing wheel. Ordered another, and the wheels fell of while getting it out of the packaging. The main landing gear tires are attached in such a way that they won't stay attached.
We own many different models of the Hot Wings...this is the only bad one we've run across.

More of a model than a toy, but good enough to be either.,

Approximately 4 inches in length and with a wingspan of 5 inches, this model of the Cessna 172 is lightweight, reasonably priced- at least in stores- and able to function either as a toy or as a model. It's probably not the most realistic replica of the 172 ever made, but will no doubt be up to desktop display standards for most people. It's moderate size and light weight are to be considered on that end, also. And because the construction is simple and mostly consists of metal, this 172 can hold up as a toy reasonably well, too. However, certain exterior parts, the propeller and landing gear most notably, are plastic and may be all too easy to damage if one gets carried away. Still, I find it reassuring that the plastic components are more inclined to bend than break, so even the more vulnerable parts of this model plane may be more durable than most.
I do recommend this plane- such models as this are generally good value for the money. However, having seen some of the prices online for one I suggest anybody looking for a Hot Wings- I think that's the manufacturer- Cessna 172 try to find one in stores first. I mean, $23 for a little model like this? Frightful. |
