This was possibly the worst thing I've ever read, even for a freebie it was horrible. The dialogue was TERRIBLE, awkward, and downright laughable it was so stupid and unrealistic. The plot...wait there was no plot. You have two people who meet, who go to bed that night (and even though he's 40 something he's ready for round 2 right after round 1- that's very realistic) then are having a weekend getaway a week later, next thing you know he's talking marriage in two weeks, then a girl comes to the house whose stepdad tried to rape her...and by then it had become so ridiculous I deleted it from my Kindle. Please do not waste your time.

There were a bunch of these short stories that came out free at the same time, and I've read several. Granted, none of them will be winning any Pulitzer prizes, but some are at least entertaining. This one was such horrible work that it made my skin crawl while I was reading it. The author sets it up to be a story about two people who have been pining for each other for decades, then turns it into a story about how excited they are to be able to f*** all of the time. There is an absolutely bizarre scene where a raped girl comes to them for help, but it lasts about a page and then she's out of the picture with no resolution. I don't know what the point of that was - it couldn't even be disguised as an attempt to give the not-even-one-dimensional characters some development. It was just totally irrelevant and weird. If I wasn't compelled to finish books that I've started, I would have dropped this one early. I'm glad it was so short. Ladies, if you want to read one of the "Naughty Nooners," there are much better choices out there than this one.

I don't expect much for stuff that's "free". And you definitely get what you pay for with this one.
Let's start with the characters, it was like reading about my parents. Eww. Than, the situations were completely unbelievable. And the wording during the sex was just awful and embarrassing. If your going with proper anatomy, stick with it, but if your going to use slang, USE SLANG. I do not recommend this, at ALL!

Oh come on, girls, all these freebies are what they are: short stories with a limited storyline where the author tries to squeeze as much excitement into a few pages to entice the reader to buy more. If these were top authors, they would not give the stuff away for free, so give them a break. Also complaining that it was like reading about your parents - did anyone claim this was teen fiction? And yes, there is sex after 40...
All in all average in this series of freebies, not outstanding but half an hour of so of adequate entertainment. |
