Product Description

Preheat 30-45 SECONDS in the microwave to keep coffee hot. SAFE HANDLING. Patented HotSmart mugs keep adding heat to your coffee (No other mugs in the world do that). (Note: Preheat a couple times before actually using it to get rid of residual odors) In contrast to thermos or double wall mugs, HotSmarts have 3 sources of heat: a) The heat in the coffee itself which is NOT wasted in heating up the mug b) The heat stored in the body of the mug c) The heat that is released slowly by the patented heat storing device integrated which stays HOT for about 30 minutes. Fine porcelain 12 FL OZ mug. This is NOT a regular mug; this is a PATENTED HotSmart® with a "Heater integrated.. Preheat the empty mug for 30-45 seconds* -while coffee is brewing- fill it with HOT coffee. That's all you have to do. Keeps coffee HOT for full enjoyment. It needs only 30-45 SECONDS preheating in the microwave oven (maximum, DO NOT EXCEED) . 4. No wires, no batteries; you don't have to plug anything, 5. No risk of fire (Can be used at the office, shop, etc.); Heaters are normally forbidden by insurance companies.. HotSmarts are Green, no toxic materials used. Simply preheat the mug and now you are ready to ENJOY slowly your perfect cup of coffee or tea.. 8. SAFE HANDLING; the handle doesn't get hot. 9. The inventor (myself) has been using and testing the mugs for about 6 years before offering them for sale. A-Z GUARANTEE (As claimed or your money back). *IMPORTANT: You may need to increase preheating to 45 SECONDS if you own a small microwave oven (800 Watt). - NOT dishwasher-safe

I have not obtained this item and this "review" is mostly addressed to Juan (inventor).

In reviewing the comments and descriptions about this mug, I am offering the suggestion that you have a separate mug/heat reservoir that allows the mug to be handled (and washed) independently of the heat reservoir and ideally where the base is designed to accommodate a variety of similar diameter mugs. This way those with a preference for larger mugs can use at least TALLER mugs vs having (as another option offered to consumers) different reservoir bases & diameters that one can order to best suit their own mugs/needs. This also provides a certain degree of product acceptance if one knows that if something happens to the mug (and people certainly can drop these things or otherwise cause damage to the mug) then all they have to do is replace the mug. In theory, the base and its performance should last indefinitely. In addition, this would take care of any concerns one might have regarding water damage to the base since the base is easily left out of the cleaning regimen when the mug is cleaned.

Again, this is just a suggestion based on what I've read and my own "take" on how I would re-design the product if it was my idea. You may, of course, take it or leave it. I have also read the description and comments for the plate you have designed and marketed, and I would also suggest a similar re-design of that item along the same lines as for the mug.

I have been struggling to find a solution to keeping my coffee hot in the cup without having to mess with hotplates and other prior solutions (which never worked very well because of the insulating properties of the cup) and have found the solution with the HotSmart Mug,which works exactly as well designed, PROVIDED that one follow the instructions and microwave the cup first in order to supply energy to the heat reservoir that is built in at the bottom of the cup. This energy is then available through passive transfer to the fluid in the cup (as it loses heat to the atmosphere). In regards to the constant problem of heat loss through the imperfect insulators that are coffee mugs, they have specifically addressed this by making the cup out of porcelain, which has better heat retention properties than ceramic alone, keeping the fluid significantly hotter than is possible with a standard ceramic cup alone. The fundamental physical laws that govern heat transfer in static situations (entropy), as well as dynamic situations (conservation of energy) are well utilized here, and these make perfect gifts!

You have to micro empty mug(ok) tea/coffee stays decently warm for 20-30 min(ok) but if you are not finished you have to pour unused tea into another mug to reheat, then back into Smart Mug. Way too many steps. Just easier to use my own mug & be able to reheat as many times as needed. This was a great idea, but not practical for me or my daughter. Will have to return.

Mom and Dad love these cups. Instead of jumping up from the table every few minutes to reheat the coffee in the microwave, Mom can sit and enjoy breakfast. They had already fallen in love with the dinner plates.

The cup was heavy, the instructions were confussing. The bottom line is my coffee did not stay hot/warm but the outside bottom would remove the finish of a fine table is coaster not used. Not worth all the prep microwave process for the end result!

This mug is very heavy empty and really heavy when full. It doesn't keep beverages hotter any longer than without it.

Don't bother. I get more heat preservation in a styrofoam cup...Not even worth the eight bucks. No real solution here.

It didn't keep the coffee hot long enough. The seller stated that it would keep it hot longer than that.
