I've read reviews of this book elesewhere and many of them comment on the insight the author gives of American lives from within a small hotel in rural Utah. I agree wholeheartedly with them. Coming from a small town myself, there are lessons and experiences within the small radius that are often missed in the bigger picture but in Hotel Africa, you are forced to confront them on it's own turf. To love them, learn from them, be touched by them, or ignore them at your own peril.
It's not often that people describe graphic novels as having soul, but with the gentle touch and pull of these stories, told in simplified but poignant lines, it's hard to ignore the fact that each of these stories within the book resonate within you - whether you expected them to or not. In the end, you're very happy to have felt the sunshine and warmth these stories share with you, and you can't wait to escape back to Hotel Africa.
