5.0 out of 5 stars A really great album!!!
I've been listening to the Costes collection for a couple of years now! I simply love them all...or almost all!

My first album was "La Suite" (the second in the series). A great album indeed! Immediately after that one I bought "Costes 1", then "Costes quatre" and finally "Costes 5". I had the chance to listen to the "Costes...

3.0 out of 5 stars Steady beat.....
I'm aware that the underlying steady beat is part of the genre but when present, it just kills the groove and the polyrhythmic aspect of the music. it's sounds often like sophisticated disco to me.

I've been listening to the Costes collection for a couple of years now! I simply love them all...or almost all!

My first album was "La Suite" (the second in the series). A great album indeed! Immediately after that one I bought "Costes 1", then "Costes quatre" and finally "Costes 5". I had the chance to listen to the "Costes 3" collection, but I really never liked it as much as the rest!

I loved "Costes quatre" and then came "Costes 5", and turned out to be another great collection of music! Cool, relaxing, sensual...just listen to the first few tracks and you'll see what I mean! "Summer in Paris" is my favourite and the cover of Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out" is quite surprising too! Pompougnac really has style when he chooses the music to mix in his Costes albums! "Costes 6" is out already! I can't hardly wait to get it!

If you are looking for a great mix of music with lots of style and variety look no further, the Costes collection has it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars OKAY, I CAN DIG IT!!!, July 7, 2003
This review is from: Hotel Costes 5 (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of chillout and I would often see the Hotel Costes CDs in my favorite section of the record store...deciding to take a dare, I bought number 5 in the series...I always pick up the most recent volume in a series for some reason, don't ask why...Anyway, as anyone who has read my reviews knows I usually buy Water Music records chillout CDs, but due to the lacklusterness of their recent releases, I have been forced to turn to other record labels for my "groove". And boy, did "Hotel Costes 5" do just that! This is a very impressive and eclectic set of songs that had me repeating and re-shuffing[]!! This baby was so tight that I have yet to stop listening to it since its purchase! Played it for my 4th of July barbecue, and guests were asking who was that I was
playing--even my 55 year old uncle who normally doesn't like my musical choices. The mixes from Stephane Pompougnac are remarkable and daring!! The songs are well selected and do wonders for this CD!! I absolutely love the mix of styles from early 1940s "swang" (Gabin's "Doo Uap..." is on point!) to latin funk (Dublex Inc.'s "Tocame" is as raw as it gets!) to Bossa Nova (Physics' "Leaving Monte Carlo" makes you wanna 60's go-go dance all night long) to jazzy-house (just check out every other song I didn't single out) Other so-called mixers should take notes from Pompougnac. He is truly the best at what he does. Now, I'll have to go and purchase the other volumes of "Hotel Costes." LAWD!!! Just when I thought my CD addiction was cured!

5.0 out of 5 stars Consistently good, November 25, 2002
This review is from: Hotel Costes 5 (Audio CD)
I started out with Hotel Costes 4 which I had not stop playing over and over and over again. Recently I went to my local CD store with the thought of checking out No 3 which has Shirley Bassey on the disc and left with No 3 and No 5. Now I am at a loss as to which one I should listen to over and over and over again.

This is a CD that won't disappoint just as No 4 and No 3 did not. It is consistently good and highly recommended for those wishing to listen to variety on a single CD. Not sure if it can be labelled ambient or house, it is just different and stands up to repeated listening. Each track comes back to you differently each time you replay it, very interesting.

think of the best porn you've seen, now think of the best sex you've had; you now have it in Aural format!!
Seriously it is that good, it is a continuous mix which usually leads to no good but it has this wonderful build (and subsequent release) of a real quality dj set, and then back up again...
I've for the most part avoided comps like these like the plague; it was lent to me by a friend, and I cant wait to play it for my next rendezvous, drugs dont even (necessarily) need be involved, words or rambles can't even explain how sensual this CD is.. it starts off slow but the build up to and continuing after champs elysees is like the glorification of what an attempt at a sophisticate finds sexy...
never mind just listen to it's gorgeousness, my alternate title would be the seduction of your next boy/girl, unicorns don't even need to be involved

5.0 out of 5 stars Can It Get Any Better!, December 14, 2002

Does it get any better than this?
Stephane Pompougnac, who's already such an amazing genius in all the previous albums, proves to be more than a genius on this one. It's definitely upping the standard of high-style, smooth though eclectic music. The arrangements are spot-on and the tracks blend seamlessly, ingeniously. You will be amazed at the variety of styles and moods in this upbeat, happy, sexy, and overall stylish album.
I've played it repeatedly without any signs of growing bored with it.
After sampling this GREAT album, I'm really breathlessly waiting for the NEXT compilation! This is HOW good it is!!!
Forget designer clothes (if you can!), soaking up the tunes on this album already makes you feel hipper than hip! Unbelievably stylish. Truly desirable! Best album of 2002.

4.0 out of 5 stars Costes puts you in the mood, December 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hotel Costes 5 (Audio CD)
I recently purchased this CD since so many people were recommending it. The Costes disc is a little light and airy. It has a soft approach. The tracks are sweet and bouncy and definitely perfect for the person drinking cosmos and sucking in their cheeks. So, the vibe is there for the person looking for a cute little mix of tracks.

But, it does not have the grittier jazz, funk and deep house grooves that are available on this other comp I picked up called Paris Under A Groove.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best in the Costes Hotel series, December 25, 2002

I have all 5 Costes Hotel CD's and this has become my favorite along with La Suite. I love the remix of the old jazz tune Doo Uap, Doo Uap, Doo Uap. Like the previous CD's, this one has an eclectic blend of styles - all mixed to perfection. If you're interested in the best of lounge music - you can't beat the Costes Hotel series.

4.0 out of 5 stars not my favorite, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Hotel Costes 5 (Audio CD)
When I started listening to Pompougnac I fell in love with the music. Some of my friends told me to start with number 5, I bough 3,4,5,6,and 7 the same day... thank god because number 5 was the one I liked the least... don't get me wrong it is a BEAUTIFUL CD and the songs are great but not the best of them... 6 and 3 are the best for me so I recomend to start with number 6 then 7 and then any of them....I have the whole Hotel Costes collection and it is just amazing. Stephane is a GENIUS...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hotel Costes, October 26, 2002
This review is from: Hotel Costes 5 (Audio CD)
A friend introduced me to what started out as ambient and carried me into the world of down tempo, especially bosanova. I listened to it all from K&D to in house mixes. I have a huge arsenal of down tempo to please all. As my musical tastes enrichens so does my scrutiny for only the best. Without question Pomppougnac continues to walk on water with his ability to master his talents and put together a mix that makes my mouth water. I eagerly anticipate every new release. If you choose to pass it will be to your regret for any compilation put together by this mozart of down tempo would be a missed opportunity of divine enlightenment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool chillout, October 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hotel Costes 5 (Audio CD)
This is the first album out of the series that I came across. I purchased it over in Europe as something to listen to at home. Wow! I am going to buy the rest of them. It is a great lounge/chillout music for home. Can be used for cocktail parties or as a background music during a dinner with friends. I love listening to it in my car (good stereo is a must). I am a fan of De Phazz, Tosca and Buddha Bar. Oh yeah, Cream for dancing, of course! I have bought a lot of albums produced by Mole Listening Pearls. Hotel Costes is definitely a great addition to any lounge/chillout music library.
