I was so excited when I realized that there was a Hotel for Dogs video game. I got it for my ninth birthday and immediately started playing it. The game might look fun but all you do is walk around. Every once in a while you could click a button if your pet was hungry but you didn't control how you feed the dog!!! I was reel excited when I could help Max find some things for a new invention he was going to make but there was no BUTTON to click or instructions for you when you are done!!! So I never saw the complete product of the invention.Bottom line I really don't recommend this game.

This is a clever and fun set of games for the Nintendo DS. Good fun and interesting challenges. The graphics are good, game play average.

I bought this game with the hopes that it would include creative gadget-building a la "The Incredible Machine" (as the box vaguely led me to believe), but I was sorely disappointed. Technically, you do build gadgets to help out the dogs in the hotel, but the process involves simply searching every room for pieces (which is extremely tedious in itself) and then placing them on the bottom screen by copying an image on the top screen. There's no problem-solving or creativity involved... in fact, you never get to see the gadgets in action, nor are you ever even clued in to how exactly each gadget is intended to work. This is a shame; "Hotel For Dogs" could have been a very clever and imaginative game -- even educational -- if it had focused on the actual workings of the gadgets themselves.Alas, the gameplay is essentially this: dogs enter the hotel and randomly become "needy" in various ways (from getting hungry to dirty to needing to use the bathroom), and you have to point them in the direction of a gadget that will care for this need. Simultaneously, you must search all the rooms for parts to build more gadgets, which, as stated above, is simply tedious and, again, involves no problem-solving skills but purely random un-educated guesswork. As the game goes along, more and more dogs come to the hotel and, as they all just become needy over and over in different ways, you basically just find yourself clicking on dogs and pointing at gadgets constantly. That's about it. Furthermore, there is absolutely nothing at stake in this game. You're led to believe that you have to "take care" of the dogs in order to succeed, but nothing of ultimate consequence occurs if you don't. Yes, the dogs become "upset" if you neglect them, but then they just wander out to the alley and you either lure them back or buy them back from the pound with phantom money that never runs out. (I did an experiment and just let the game run without doing anything, to see what would happen if all the dogs became upset... and the answer is nothing. In fact, if you leave them upset long enough, they become happy again! It is literally impossible to lose the game. On the other hand, if you actually make a point to "progress" in the game through to its endpoint and "win", there's absolutely no payoff whatsoever.) So yeah... don't bother with "Hotel For Dogs" unless you just want to watch little digitized dogs walk around ad nauseum, clicking on them to your heart's content.
