5.0 out of 5 stars Another splendid album
I must say that I am quite fond of To Rococo Rot, so my review may be biased in that respect. However, for anyone who enjoys the subtleties often encountered in Four Tet, for example, should be delighted with this offering by the German unit. Their music is very organic and warm, rewarding the listener with new facets and sonic meanderings with each new audition. To...

1.0 out of 5 stars rococo in a rut
Dear, oh dear. Tunes any two-fingered idiot could play on a one-octave Casio keyboard. Rhythms from a 1978 drum computer. No breaks, no shifts, no progression - just two to four minute tracks that start, drizzle on for a bit, and stop.
(Oh, and guest appearances on guitar by Mister Coco, the Musical Chimp.)

To Rococo Rot makes use of the best of fuzzy logic techniques and a distinctive sound to create a niche where they stand with very few other musicians. As usual their albums are short (just over 40 minutes), but as I said before, every time one listens to their music one discovers new nuances and angles. I highly recommend this one to any electronica enthusiast who wants to be bathed in oodles of glorious harmonies and good taste.

... but then I wouldn't be enjoying them half so much now! What an impressive, refreshing sound To Rococo Rot produces in this and in other albums.

For lack of a better classification, this is idm at its finest -- but it surpasses so many others who fall short, who pick up a nice 10-second loop and repeat it over and over and over for 6 minutes and call it a track. No, every song on this album is a unique blend of any number of influences and sounds -- from loungy to jazzy to beautiful atmospherics. Traditional instruments, including the piano, guitar and even chimes are used heavily here, and are seamlessly folded into a loungy/electronic construct.

It's so difficult to write about music and communicate an idea of what you can expect. But trust me on this one -- if you're at all a fan of IDM or lounge, take the chance and pick this one up. It's simply beautiful. As is everything this artist produces. Whether it's the future of electronica (as I believe) remains to be seen, but in any case I highly highly doubt that you'll regret the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music for listeners, May 10, 2008

[Can't believe this album got the one star bashing it got here...!]

A few years after it came out now, and I still find this album extremely entertaining to listen to. It's tasteful, creamy and full of unexpected little twists, yet in a very understated and elegant way. Not a single weaker track on this one, if you ask me. If you like electronic music that is complex and elaborate in a not so obvious, laid back way, then this one is for you. Not an album for dancers as one reviewer stated. Well yeah, but certainly funky.

You can't dance to it. You can't relax with it. Music with no redeeming qualities other than the fact that at 43 minutes, it doesn't last long enough to make you throw yourself from a window with boredom.
Learn from my mistake. Don't buy it.
