This is a classic adventure game, not a hidden object game(thank god), for all of those seeking the usual search, solve puzzles, find objects and combine them, this is your game, the graphics are not bad, it seems also that the makers didn't wanna complicate things too much, the dialogues are written not spoken, the character's movements need improvement, no fast displacement, you have to wait patiently for the character to walk from side to side of the screen, the game includes an ingame strategy guide button, where you can find a complete walkthrough of the game (a spoiler), the gameplay time was relatively short, puzzles were easy, and if you ever got stuck, there is always the strategy guide button. in short, a simple, average fun and quality game.

Don't pay this price (you do a search and you can get this game for $6.99 from a well known trusted online game company Once you are paying this price then it's a bit more worth it.

It's not a long game, and it's not up there with nancy drew, but its an average, fun though short adventure game.

edit: october 2011. Glad to see the price has come down. Want to add that it is one of those games that is done (in game) over a couple of days. Enjoy it at this price :)

I really liked this game!

So yes, maybe it wasn't as professionally done as say Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2, which by the way is my most favorite game of all time. It did remind me more of the Broken Sword Trilogy games and Secret Files - Tunguska [Download] which are great games (except Hotel does NOT have the voiceovers). And like the above mentioned games, has a kid friendly atmosphere, no swearing or nudity, and I really like that aspect.

For me it was more fun to play than say a Nancy Drew Ultimate Dare Bundle (4 Games in 1) game, because the Nancy Drew games are usually so chock-full of studious puzzles they can sometimes feel like doing chores and less like just having fun in a new and exciting location. This game had a couple of Nancy Drew type puzzles, but they were much easier to figure out, which for me was nice because I am all about the story and less about the puzzles. So far no other game comes close to rivaling the Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 story for me.

Speaking of the story, it was ok, just ok...not great; but definitely worth playing. To put it in perspective, some of the Nancy Drew stories are no better than this one.

HOTEL by Cateia Games is a fun and interesting mystery adventure, but nowhere near the quality of a legitimate Nancy Drew or Monkey Island adventure game. The game itself has a good plot as well as some interesting puzzles, but the overall length of the game as well as some silly plot points really bring the game down on my scale of a good quality adventure game.

Plot:
The plot of HOTEL centers around anything but an actual hotel. Players assume the role of Bridget Brightstone, a detective who has an uncanny resemblance to Laura Croft. While you won't see any action like that of Tomb Raider, HOTEL does provide you with a semi interesting plot at the beginning of the game.
Before your arrival, one of the guests at the hotel has been robbed of a necklace. Shortly after the robbery, she falls into a coma. Brightstone's job is to find out what happened to the guest's necklace and figure out who the culprit is.
At the hotel, Brightstone will get to interact with many different characters; however, the lack of any real character progression as the story continues really hinders the game's plot.
At the beginning of the game, players are introduced to a cinematic cut scene of Bridget getting the case assigned to her while she is on vacation. We get to hear her voice as well as many interesting sound effects. All of that soon goes to nothing when the gameplay actually begins. No more character voices; instead we get to click through on screen dialogue and read through them. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it really does take the depth from plot away and players feel like they're reading a book more than anything else.

I was so disappointed in this game!

I'm a huge fan of adventure-style mystery games and love games like the Nancy Drew mystery games and when I saw this game I thought it might be similar to those. Boy was I let down. The game-play is essentially similar to the Nancy Drew games, but could use a lot of improvement. The graphics are terrible and the "locations" are mediocre at best, with very little to do or explore in each area.

As for the storyline. I was drawn in at first because the storyline of the game seemed interesting, involving an old castle wraught with ghosts and old secrets. The tasks weren't terribly hard but they required some thinking and posed somewhat of a challenge. However, the story line took a VERY quick and disappointing turn about halfway through the game. It seems like the writers had a good story going, got writer's block, and stumbled their way through the second half of the game to finish it off. The second half of the game is also filled with stupid tasks and a lot of walking back and forth between places that seems to just take up time and make the game seem longer.

There is a TON of talking between the main character and the people around her, sometimes you get to pick what she says. Most of the time the other characters drone on and it's hard to stay interested in what theyre saying. Also the main character seems to come off as a ditz and her reactions aren't very realistic ("You need me to save the world? Oh! Ok!") There is also some vague hinting to the main character's shady background, but nothing is elaborated on or explained in the end and it leaves you with a "What....?" kind of feeling.

My biggest pet peeve was that the story had no central focus. The eras of history were all over the place.
