No bigger than a large key chain.

The whistle and light aren't really necessary, but the thing is small overall and seems to do the job.

I had to pry the tab off the seatbelt cutter with the point of my pocket knife.

As usual, people who can't figure out how to use a product give it 1 star and drag the rating down. Once you pull off the blade cover the first time (it may take a little effort), the tabs get "broken in" and it goes on and off easily after that. Also, as a safety measure, the blade cover needs to be off in order to use the window breaker. That may be why someone thought that didn't work. Believe me it's plenty forceful to break glass. The whistle and light could be a little better, but the cutter and breaker are A+.

The operation of the device is easy and PDF directions are available on the company website. The concept is this:

1. Once the blade cover is attached - the part with the key ring attachment - it is hard to remove. It needs to be or the tool would fall off of the key ring. The product is shipped with the cover off so you can see how the device functions. Once you snap the cover on, little plactic tabs keep it from coming off easily without using a mini screw driver to lift it over the tabs.

2. When you get in a jam, you yank the device off of your key ring. The effort required to do this would be minimal - a light tug reveals how the cover begins to flex and would readily come off when needed. The plactic blade cover stays on your key ring and what you have in your hand is an exposed blade to cut the seat belt, a LED flashlight, and a spring loaded punch tool ready to press against the window.

Its that simple. If your looking for just a fancy key ring flashlight, there are better choices. If you want a key ring tool to escape a vehicle, this is perfect. This is a use it once in a emergency and then get a new one type of device. I don't know how well the little cover will fair when I yank the tool free and I don't know how sharp the blade would be after cutting a belt. But if I am ever forced to find out - I really won't care.

On a side note, the spring loaded punch is metal and clearly visible in the device. Also, since it is a blunt point, it is designed to deliver its shock to a very small spot. In short, a lot of energy directed at a small point on the glass will shatter or crack it enough to be pushed out.

I can't believe that some people can't figure out how to get the cap off. If you have it on a key ring (and there's a sturdy hole in the product for expressly that purpose), you pull the ring and the cap pops right off.

The spring-loaded breaking mechanism seems to work fine. I have yet to try it on car window glass, but it punched the table pretty dang hard. If you have ever broken a car window with a spark plug or similar you know -- it doesn't require much force.

Anyway I have no problem with the product. The whistle and light aren't really necessary, but the thing is small overall and seems to do the job.

This is a potential life saver. Like any rescue device, you never want to need it. But the window breaker and seat belt cutter could save your life or a loved one. If your car is sinking, you can't open the windows or doors sometimes. Being able to break the windows easily in an emergency is critical. Or what if you come to an accident and the driver is unresponsive and the car is catching on fire. You can use it to break their window, cut their seatbelt, and pull them out. The other tools aren't as useful. The whistle isn't the loudest in the world and the light is nice in a pinch. But I didn't buy the Houdini for them so they are just bonus for me. I bought 4 of them (thanks woot!) and I carry one, gave one to my girlfriend, and keep a spare in each of our cars.

Attached to both sets of keys, feel a whole lot safer with it. No bigger than a large key chain.
