Telepathic jazz, December 7, 2010
This review is from: Houdini (Audio CD)
Liner notes can be a little predictable and often are to be taken with a pinch of salt. From my reading, the notes for this compelling CD are about musicians playing on the edge ... pushing their craft to new and, the suggestion continues, unsafe levels of personal exploration. Well that just about describes this trio outing to a T. T for telepathic. Each of the three artists on this disc is listening just as hard as they are playing and the result is a masterpiece of improvisation and interplay. Not avant garde - not straight ahead either. Wonderful melodic lines and great delivery from Buster Williams on acoustic bass with pianist Geri Allen and drummer Lenny White making it a band of equal parts ... a band that adds-up to more than the sum of the individual components. This, as it says on the label, is a serious trio.
