quoting Orhan Pamuk on this book, January 24, 2005
This review is from: The Houghton Shahnameh: Volume 1: Historical background and Volume 2: Text, A limited facsimile edition of the Shahnama (Book of Kings) (Hardcover)
Orhan Pamuk wrote: "For a novel I am working on, I studied ... The Houghton Shahnameh (Harvard University Press) in the New York Public Libary, and was astounded and delighted by the writers' eccentric scholarship. By examining and re-examining pictures of countless kings, princesses, soldiers, heroes, servants, horses, camels, rabbits, demons, dragons, birds, balconies, gardens, flowers, trees, leaves, hunters, lions, lovers, dreams and dreamers, Dickson and Welch rebuilt a lost culture and restored a lost history to minute details."

This review is from: The Houghton Shahnameh: Volume 1: Historical background and Volume 2: Text, A limited facsimile edition of the Shahnama (Book of Kings) (Hardcover)
This book gives an excellent insight to the long forgotten world of the Persian empire. The kings that once ruled ancient Persia have long been forgotten. They were known for there valour and sense of justice. This is perfectly portrayed in this book. This is a must read for history students who want to known about about this long forgetton empire.
