Book Description

February 1984
The bus system that came to be known as the Greyhound Bus Company was founded by Carl Eric Wickman, an enterprising Swede of Hibbing, Minnesota. The first bus was a seven-passenger Hupmobile touring car that was used to transport miners across the Mesaba Iron Range to and from work. Wickman was soon joined by another Swede, Andrew Anderson, and they began operating in earnest the route from a saloon in Hibbing to the fire-hall in Alice. From this lowly beginning grew the Greyhound Corporation, a multi-million dollar company which, through the years, has owned everything from a chain of hamburger restaurants to a soap company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who is the Right Author?, August 18, 2000
By
CARLTON JACKSON (Morgantown, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hounds of the Road (Paperback)
My name is Carlton Jackson and I am the author of "Hounds of the Road," published in the early 80s by Popular Press of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and Kendall/Hunt in Iowa. I have no idea whatever of why this book is being listed as authored by "Pat J.BGU." When the book was first published Kendall/Hunt listed it as R. Browne (who was at that time the director of Popular Press). I thought I had corrected the problem. The book deals with the Greyhound bus company, and I am presently writing a new introduction and a new final chapter for a revised edition of this book. It will be out in early January 2000l. For anyone out there wondering about this matter, I am Carlton Jackson of Western KY University, and I AM THE AUTHOR of Hounds of the Road. I will now take steps to get this matter cleared up. Cheers, Carlton Jackson

3.0 out of 5 stars No information on the photographs, January 31, 2010

This review is from: Hounds of the Road: A History of the Greyhound Bus Company (Hardcover)
I was disappointed that there was no information accompanying the photographs in the book. There was nothing written about what year a bus model was, when and where a photo was taken, or who and/or what was in a photo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another History and Perspective of Greyhound Buses., December 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A very detailed and intriguing History of Greyhound buses, especially in the early years; lacks a lot of the history, if any, of the later years.
I was not too interested in the articles concerning the promotional real dog and other celebs; distracted from the real history.
Well worth buying for the early history alone, and then there is the photographs; good.
