So I've been taking 5 hour energy for around 4 years, can't complain. I take it, feel the effects set in within 15 minutes and it keeps me going for around 2.5 hours or so on average. Never felt the "5 hour energy", but 2.5 hours does the trick on big days.

The downside? Pretty expensive and it does taste pretty bad.

Three weeks ago I was watching CNN when there was a report on done on a new "brain enchancer" called Addium. Apparently it is supposed to provide energy for the whole day, improve your focus, alertness, concentration and some other brain functions that I can't remember now. I decided to give it a try, since I'm always looking for the next best thing. I did see that Addium sells on Amazon and has great reviews, but upon further digging, the price is 20-40% cheaper on their website (addium.com). Not sure what is up with the price difference, it could be other people trying to resell the product for profit.

So getting to the point, I have been on addium for the last two weeks. I take one pill right before breakfest and that is it. And honestly, that is all it takes. Just as with 5 hour energy, I feel the effects set in within 15 minutes, but unlike 5hr energy, I feel energized and focused for nearly 8 hours every single day. Best of all? It's cheaper. I'm basically paying $1 per pill, as opposed to $1.57 for 5hr energy. On top of that, I just swallow the pill and am good to go. Don't have to deal with the nasty liquid taste. I also barely feel any crash from Addium, while with 5 hour energy it seems much more prevelant.

The slight downside with Addium that I didn't see with 5hr energy? I have a lack of appetite with Addium. Usually when lunch time rolls by, I am not that interested in eating at all. But hell...maybe I'll finally lose some weight?

This is my opinion on Addium and 5 hour energy. I have been a loyal customer of 5hr energy for many years, but Addium does seem to have it beat in every category.

I've used the extra strength (improved), and it's great! I just ordered my second round from amazon.

Here's the thing. I can't drink tea because the tannins totally upset my stomach, and I can't drink coffee. I've been using caffeine pills for years, long before caffeine supplements became the hip, legal drug of choice. There are some pretty good brands out there, but what I like about 5 Hour is that it enters your system immediately and starts to work immediately, unlike pills which can take up to 1/2 hour to take effect.

Also, to be honest, I never bought 5 hour before, because they refused to declare their caffeine milligrams on their packaging. I never take over 400 mg. a day (my personal limit), but now that they are transparent and actually list it on the label....I'm in!

Great product, and I'll definitely be a repeat customer.

I had to stop drinking carbonated beverages about 10 years ago and I hated taking caffeine in tablet form, it was all to hard on my stomach, esophagus and blood pressure. So I broke down and tried this during a long car trip and much to my joy it was wonderful. The vitamin B(s) that are added make it a smooth up and a smooth down, not a jolt yet it does far more than just caffeine would and lasts longer. I don't use it daily, but when I have to be somewhere and I am feeling sluggish I just drink this and very soon the cob webs have disappeared, my sight has cleared and I am ready to deal with what I have to do. I also have a lot of sleep issues and I can use this to stabilize my sleep pattern as well. I also enjoy mixing it with juice instead of drinking it straight, but the taste isn't bad by itself and best of all it doesn't hurt my stomach or esophagus.

I have tried others and they just do not compare to 5 hour. No crash like the others and enjoy the taste.

Wife sometimes uses 1/2 bottle for a boost. This is a great gift for her - useful and I didn't even have to go out.

I tried a Lemon/Lime Energy Shot for the first time on a marathon road trip (Wa to NY and Back)! I thought the flavor was horrible, but it was GREAT to not worry about being tired (ever tried sleeping only in a car for 4 days?)! I've never liked energy drinks, and coffee wasn't a friend of mine...I don't like the shaking and jittery feeling or the crash. With these, you can either take a half bottle or the full bottle depending on how tired you are, or how long until you're able to rest. Before you buy the next Energy Drink, get one of these....Try it. If you like not crashing, being able to drink something healthier, and not being jittery....come back on Amazon and buy them this way. Much much cheaper than buying them at the store. My favorite is definitely the berry, but try them out...see which is the best for you.

If you like the 5 hour I found the grape to be a very good flavor. The price is very competitive and came quickly.

Don't leave home without it! A great pre-game/ pre-workout supplement that does not sit too heavy on my stomach.

After listening to the commercials I bit and bought the 5 Hour Energy drink. I tried it out just last week. Believe me, this is powerful stuff. It's not just the caffeine that has an effect on you. There are other ingredients that also alter the chemistry of the brain.

We've mentioned caffeine. Big deal. You drink a cup of coffee and you'll get the equivalent amount, which is about 100 mg. Compared to a lot of energy drinks that's relatively mild. 5 Hour Energy makes a decaffeinated energy drink too, so we have to assume that the real effects don't rely on the caffeine. And it's about time. All caffeine really does is substitute one state of poor concentration (sleepy) with another (jittery). Other ingredients help to increase concentration and some even act as mood stabilizers. Still others are nutrients and vitamins.

But that's theory. The real world effects are another story. I tried 5 Hour Energy after a sleepless night. After taking just one shot, which is really the maximum recommended dose, I felt awake, alert and ready to face the day. BUT as the day went on there were other effects. I noticed that my concentration was improved using this drug even more so than with Adderall. (So if you're ADD like me, you could possibly self-medicate with 5 Hour Energy. Just make sure none of this gets out to Big Pharma.)

Unfortunately it had some unwelcome effects. I felt as if there was a dynamo spinning constantly in my head. My thoughts started to race. I was worried, briefly, but convinced myself that the sensation would go away, and it did after just 15-30 minutes.

I now think that 1/2 to 2/3 of a bottle may be the best dose for me. I'm not a fan of inebriation, but I could clearly identify a brief "high" and a slow letdown period that has surely gotten plenty of twentysomethings addicted to this drug.

My advice? Use it wisely. Don't underestimate it because it's small. Whatever you do, don't drink more than one in a 3 hour period or two in a day - so says the label, probably for good reason. And get your sleep if you can. Energy drinks aren't an excuse to not sleep.

And again, let me be clear. This is a drug!
