Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Hi. I'm an author like you, and I've faced challenges too.  My first novel made it's impressive debut somewhere in the neighborhood of 700,000 on the Amazon rankings. Fortunately, I have an iron will and a background in marketing.  Trust me, anyone who can make a living selling $1.00 balloons is really doing something. With a little determination and implementation of the techniques in this book that same novel can now boast  having been the #1 Kindle Bestselling Gothic and remaining on three bestseller lists for 13 consecutive months. I'm happy to announce that all of my current books can frequently be found on those many revered lists for their categories.

While my marketing background certainly gave me a slight advantage that's all it was.  I stumbled through the first six months bouncing up and down on the rankings like a kid on a pogo stick.  If you've been at this at least a few days you know that the process can be exhausting.

I wrote this book because somewhere along the way I realized that it was possible to do a few actionable tasks and benefit from them well into the future. While I enjoy all my social media there are times when I cannot be on the internet networking and doing the marketing thing.  As an author I wanted to build a business that could work and produce results without my holding it's hand every moment of the day.  I wanted a business where I could actually write more books.  I didn't start out with intentions to write a book, but along the way I met people just like me who were struggling.  I began to help out and just like it had worked for me, these techiniques (simple as they may be) began to work for them.

This book is not one of those that gives you all the little short cuts and promises you can "out-smart" Amazon. Instead, it's practical advice that's been broken into bite-sized portions for easy digestion.  It's designed to work through one hour at a time and depending on where you are now you should begin to see some results within a few days.  I think it's wonderful that you may see more immediate results, but the book was designed to help you build consistency in your business.

If you have any questions please contact me...I'm not hard to find!

From the Inside Flap

Listen to Tammie! This is the best advice I can offer a self-publishing author. She is a marketing genius with a keen eye for potential sales, a knack for beautiful cover art and most importantly a desire to help other aspiring authors.

Violet Patterson- Author of the YA fantasy ESTELAN, and Kindle Bestselling Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance the EMERALD SEER series.

As an independent publisher initially of print books only, we find ourselves in a funny place between self-published and mainstream. It's more difficult for an indie publisher to secure distribution deals, sales reps etc, and just when we almost gave up we secured a distributor and representation. The kindle world is just as tough for an indie publisher as it is for self-published and we almost decided not to go on kindle. The joy for the smaller operation like us is that the authors go out and make contacts and one of our authors really pushed for a kindle presence and met Tammie Clarke Gibbs online. The sharing, learning and introduction to the online world that Ms. Gibbs offered was just wonderful and so thanks to her we went ahead and dipped our toes into kindle-land!

Justina Hurley - Katy Press -

In this book, you will find all of the advice she has already given me, along with so much more. Indeed, this advice has changed the way I prepare my work for market, and how I approach the market when I get there.

J Bryden Lloyd (Author - UK) The Chronicles Of Jenson Quest & The Zubot Master.

With Tammie's help I have altered my blurbs, redesigned my covers, completely redone my blog, which has had 500 views in the last month alone, and all of this has been done with only minimal effort, enabling me to maximize my resources, my time, and most importantly, my efficiency, leaving me with more time for writing.

The past two months have not only been the best I've had for sales and money, but they have been beyond my wildest dreams. In the past month I have sold more than double the number of books I originally hoped to sell by the end of the year.

Tammie's advice is not only to the point and spot on with what needs to be done, it is easy to follow and truly will save you time in the long run.

I heartily recommend following any advice Tammie gives, not only is she great at marketing, but she has done wonders at helping me to brand myself as an author and make my covers and blurbs more reader friendly and enticing.

Thanks to Tammie I am now able to claim bestseller status for my thriller and find myself with more time for working on my other projects.

If you are truly serious about making writing a career, whether full time or part time, then I strongly recommend you listen to this lady.

Karl Jones - Author of the Kindle Bestselling Thriller, SHATTERED

In lieu of disclosure, I'm writing this review as an author that has used the tips included in this book for promotion. My sales for my series were minimal at best before I met the author of this book and I was struggling. As a self-published author I was struggling with getting my book before the audience I was trying to reach. I had a great twitter audience, and decent facebook following but sales were still not forthcoming. I met Tammie and she offered me incredible ideas to help get the visibility my book was missing. All of these tips are included in the book she is offering to you now. With over 800,000 books available on Amazon, you need to know how to reach your audience. 8 hours puts all of this in a simple format that will save you months of agonizing trial and error mistakes that are costing you both time and money.

Take my advice and put the methods in this book to work for you. 8 hours of your time is all it takes. No book can promise to make your book a bestseller, but this book can give your book the opportunity to shine and have the best chance possible. If you've read other self-help books on promotion and discovered that they haven't helped you obtain your goals, you might be a little worried about trying another. I know that the ideas listed here have helped my sales tremendously, and while I can't promise they will work for you I can tell you they definitely can't hurt. We as authors pour our hearts and souls into our books, doesn't your book deserve the best possible chance to succeed?

I have read three excellent books that helped make marketing my own books easier, quicker and more productive. While I got some good pointers from each, I must say I truly got more from 8 Hours to Jump Start Your Career: A Step-By-Step Guide for Self-Published Authors (The 8 Hour Series) than any other.

After several years spent learning (by trial and error) the ins-and-outs of the various Social Media sites--especially when dealing with the e-book craze--I admit that I already used many of the methods described by author Tammie Clarke Gibbs. However, what I learned from Gibbs in this book is helping organize my efforts in a more productive way, thus saving me time. And we all know that time is money...

Since I have a journalism career background, I grew up learning "newspaper ways," but books are a whole new ballgame... I published my first print book in 2000, then e-books came along and changed ALL of what I knew about print marketing. With a million competitive and talented authors vying for e-book sales, I know that we authors need to learn all we can.

I quickly learned that I couldn't do it alone...

I've always believed in authors helping authors (people helping people), so I eagerly joined author-friendly sites like Daniel L. Carter's Author Central, Carolyn Arnold's Celebrating Authors, Janet Beasley's JLB Creatives, Niamh Clune's On The Plum Tree, Robert Stanek's Go Indie and many more... I'm pleased by how most of the authors in those groups jump in to help the new members and each other. I always try to help others, also; often at the neglect of my "next manuscript." (I'm sure you've heard that same lament from other authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide June 7, 2012

I will first say I beta read the book and it's quite good. There's a lot of valuable information on how you can more efficiently use your time as an author. It seems like there are multiple hands on your time and you have no time to write as I can say from experience.

I've also learned from the author over the last several months, she knows in depth what she is talking about in this book. When we first met on-line my sales were dismal at best and that is no longer the case for me. Because of putting in place some of the concepts that are in this book I've been able to produce more than I used to and I've been able to improve my writing considerably.

The title says it all. If you're sitting at home with an idea for a novel or a stack of dusty manuscripts in the attic, now is the time to take control of your creativity. Tammie Clarke Gibbs provides you very specific action steps to getting started RIGHT NOW. Her books details specific agenda items such as setting up your author page on Amazon, creating a blog, and getting started on social media to market your work. She is very clear about expectations and warns that you will get out of this what you put into it. This is not the "hit the lottery" type gamble. Everything she describes takes hard work. However, 8 hours will get you on track with the basics to start selling books. This book is also loaded with extras including links to forms Tammie has created that you can use right away. Highly recommended if you're ready to self-publish.

If you are trying to sell a book for the Kindle, this is probably the most important book you could own. That's not hyperbole. Amazon has changed their ranking system and promotional rules, and the ballgame is different from even last year. While many books contain excellent timeless maxims of sales and advertising, this is the one that tells you exactly how to apply them today for Kindle ebooks. The author tells you about tagging, about how to maximize your chances of getting on one or several Amazon top 100 lists, and the most useful forums for author promotion available and exactly how to use them. I only bought it a day ago, so unlike others I haven't put most of the advice into effect yet, but a few things are obvious once she points them out - though many others aren't.

So, can you really jump start your career in eight hours? The key word is jumpstart. After you jump start a car you still have to drive it somewhere, figure out why it wouldn't start without jumper cables, and regularly take care of fuel and maintenance. Her eight main chapters are called hours. The author reminds you that you get out of this what you put into it. One of the first tasks is to compare your advertising copy and cover are to a book in your category that is where you want to be. If you do that, and realize it is very poor, and nod your head at this insight and go on, you could finish that chapter in an hour. If you investigate cover artists and negotiate prices with them, that one task will take more than an hour, but you will benefit greatly from this book.
