5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT GAME February 20, 2012
Verified Purchase
This is another great hidden object/adventure game. Excellent graphics that allow you to see objects clearly, many hints for objects and just moving around, great background music, eerie atmosphere, interesting story, morphing objects, terrific notebook and strategy guide included. Just one of the better games! Great value.
I just finished the game and on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 10!

Love it!!! I have several HOG games. Bought this game last week and can't stop playing it. Some games are so frustrating/boring but not this one. It has so many different rooms and locations that it keeps you interested. A definite must have if you like these sort of "mystery/hidden object games. Great graphics and music/sound effects too. 5.0 out of 5 stars 1000 Doors of Fun! March 22, 2012
Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this game. I bought it after reading the other reviews and found them to be quite accurate (thank you all). You can play as a novice or expert, depending on how much help you think you'll want/need. For novice, the Help button replenishes in 1 minute; for expert, in 2. I played novice and really had fun. Now I'm going to redo it in expert mode.

The "object finds" were fairly easy but challenging, and the puzzles were easy, too. I like my games to move fast, and this one does. There is a map in the on-screen book that lets you see all the rooms and allows you to transport throughout the house, and it even lets you know which rooms have some sort of action that you can take.

There are enough twists and turns in finding the items that link everything together that the game keeps it fun. You do have to remember where you might need an object in the future. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun, Medium Difficulty, Moderate Length! May 1, 2012
Verified Purchase
This game is a lot of fun and I got a kick out of the storyline. You are Kate Reed, author of supernatural novels. It's a dark and dreary night. Kate has fallen asleep at her desk, but she's awakened by the doorbell ringing. She goes to the door, but there's no one there, only a package left on the porch. She opens the package and it's an old-fashioned typewriter. Your first inventory based puzzle is to do some assembly on the typewriter, which then types out a message by itself! Kate is invited to a seance.

The problem is, the house in which the seance is located is cursed. It periodically changes locations, simply disappears from one location and sets down in another. You never know where it will land next. Worse, if you don't get out by the next time it changes location, you'll be stuck in the house forever.

When you start a game, you are asked if you want to play the casual version or expert version. The differences are that in the casual version, points of interaction, such as where you can pick up an object, are highlighted. Also, the built-in hint system takes 1 minute to reload in casual, versus two minutes in expert.

Even in the expert version, you are given lots of hints when Kate talks to herself. For example, when you click on the typewriter, a caption appears saying, "I need paper to put in the typewriter". A more difficult game would require that you figure that out without the game telling you.

This Collector's Edition also has a Strategy Guide built right in, with screen shots of every scene and complete answers to every puzzle and inventory-based action as well as location of each hidden object. To access the strategy guide, you exit the game to the Main Menu. From the Main Menu, select Strategy Guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE so far!!! March 25, 2012

I was really hesitant about buying this game especially since one particular reviewer say's the same thing about ALL the games which leads me to wonder how honest the review(s) are and based on that particular reviewer, and believing it I found myself quite unhappy with a couple of games I purchased and now stuck with them. So here is the real deal for House of 1000 Doors. IT RULES!!!! I needed the hint button a few times and only checked the strategy guide twice (it's included and doesn't interrupt the game as in other games). The graphics are so poignant and vibrant it is not too difficult to remember where to return to after finding an object to move to the next level or complete the level you are in (and my memory sucks!!). I have some pretty awesome games, but this one takes the cake! A must have if you are into seances, ghosts, mediums.... Only problem I had was trying to figure out some of the puzzles. Instructions given on the bottom of the screen (i.e., turn coins so they are same color and they wouldn't turn and the man on the gandola where you have to move the arms to replicate the image of the picture by clicking on forearms and shoulders and they wouldn't move.) Other than that great game!!!!
