A real glimpse into one man's psyche,
By
This review is from: House Arrest (Audio CD)
Ariel Pink recorded this record by himself. The songs are his vision of what good music is. There is a decidedly 60's feel to the record. He recorded this record using a home 8-track tape machine. But to fans of uninhibited artistic expression (in bands such as early Pink Floyd/Syd solo and early Velvet Underground), this record will sound like a breath of fresh air in today's environment. This is not to say the music is uninteresting, or too low-fi to really get into. The soundscapes that Ariel creates are quite remarkable and unique. The songs vary from quirky pop and heartfelt soul to stoner rock and experimental noise control. Check out "Helen" or "West Coast Calamities" to get a quick taste of the world of Ariel Pink.

The Best,

There is no tastier music than that of Ariel Pink and for me this album is the tastiest. His psychedelic pop audio streams flow out of my speakers and bounce around the room enriching my life and the lives of those around me. His songs are untainted by anyone elses input in nearly every aspect allowing for complete self-indulgence and it is oh so good. I recommend listening to this one from start to finish (Worn Copy as well, but that's another story) because no sonic journey is shinier and more impactful than that of House Arrest in it's entirety.
I bid you good day.

Everytime I sit down and try / I get interesting results,

It astonishes me that I've only owned this album for two months. The melodies are so infectious I feel as though I known them most of my life. And, despite their intentionally lo-fi production (damaged/muffled sound) and sometimes schizoid arrangments, these songs are genuinely good and often moving. This album is the perfect gateway to the bizarre and brilliant sonic realm of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti.
