4.0 out of 5 stars This disco influenced house is not for the faint hearted
I have the full Dimtiri collection all on vinyl - I think to classify this music as house is a mistake. Its mixed disco. Mixed damn well. I collect old disco vinyl and to me this is a treasure trove of very hard to find vinyl with some funky beats mixed in to make it easier to mix. These records did it for me on both a funk and disco level. For those of us who spend hours...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just don't expect it to be another "Night at the PM"
Like many, I became Dimitri's fan after his "Playboy Mansion" mini-series first CD, and I still think it's incredible. For those of us who spend hours thumbing through old dirty records in the basements of second hand record shops looking for that piece of gold to blow the lid off the joints we play, these records are a godsend.

I am the first to admit that if ur not a dj and your looking for the "jam in ur cdplayer magic and play till it bleeds" of after the playboy (esp. the uplifting) this may not be your cup of tea - but i hope if ur reading this u own cassius 99 and discovery - and how much sense do they make NOW?

This disco influenced house is not for the faint hearted - and unless u have a passion for the obscure - stick with the naked music records or something similar. Its not mainstream.

It's a collectors edition, not a good cd for the car unless u like the ff button.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMIGOD IT'S GREAT!, March 29, 2004

Sacrebleu had its moments; Playboy Mansion made me a fan; After the Playboy Mansion was equally great. From track 1 of the first disc, "In the House" amazes. Dimitri's ear for music is without peer. There is a retro flair to his choices, but with impeccable taste. This will be getting unending play at many a hip joint over the next several years. Awesome.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just don't expect it to be another "Night at the PM", April 24, 2004
This review is from: In the House (Audio CD)
Like many, I became Dimitri's fan after his "Playboy Mansion" mini-series first CD, and I still think it's incredible. My love for this wonderful mix was the primary reason why I bought the next one, "After the Playboy Mansion", immediately after it was released in February 2002. The CD was good enough, but I hoped that Dimitri wouldn't follow the path of overly-intellectual and sometimes truly boring track selection which he introduced in it. Unfortunately, he did - in his latest "In the House" CD.

Being also a double, "In the House" can be viewed as a successor of "After the Playboy Mansion", and not only for this reason. The first of the two CDs, though certainly not as low-tempo and laid-back as "After the PM" Disc 1, still gives an impression of a warm-up - a boring one. Many of its tracks, though up-tempo and energetic, lack melody and notable hooks (which is what the original "Night at the PM" has a lot of) and are just not memorable. Rare but lucky exceptions like DJ Gregory's "Don't Know Malendro" and "Mon Amour" by Louie Vega are simply lost in the overall gray picture.

Disc 2 is by far brighter. Being a clear shift towards American garage sound, it takes you right from the start with Dimitri's "Re-touch" of the "Gipsy Woman" classic, with the next track ("Ever After" by Ramsus Faber) setting happy and joyful mood for the rest of the CD. The track selection is a lot closer to what we would expect from Dimitri, with many excellent vocal tracks (rather fresh as well as classics), that just make you dance.

Overall, if given a choice, I would purchase CD 2 only. The intellectual thing Dimitri talks about on the CD cover turned into Disc 1 being nothing to remember after you listen to it. CD 2 seems to partly correct for it, though, again, don't expect it to be another "Night at the Playboy Mansion".

3.0 out of 5 stars Dimitri in the Disco, January 26, 2005
This review is from: In the House (Audio CD)
House is DEFINITELY a stretch here. I think a couple of songs would fit this description, but for the most part, it's good ol' disco. Let's just call it what it is, I think everyone would be happier. I love Joey Negro, and how he puts disco INTO house music, and I know Dimitri is fully capable of this... but not this time. For the money, I would have preferred something much much different. Look to the other sets in this series for pure house, look to this set for disco.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Disco-House Fans, November 1, 2004

Bought this a few months ago. Wasn't sure what to make of it, after getting addicted to M. Doyle's "Hedkandi" series (Serve Chilled and Beach House are the best from that label). After putting it into rotation in my car, after a few weeks, it really started to catch on (some albums take time to filter through your senses). I do agree with most reviewers here. Disc 2 is far and away a better, more creative, powerful, fun-spirited mix. As the subject heading reveals, these discs are really more disco-house, than anything else. A lot of the tracks on Disc 2 are great re-mixed songs intricately strung together, and not just digital beats jammed together as in more techno-oriented house (which I found to be true on the last disc I bought of his, Dimitri - International). If you're into more Disco-flavored House, this will certainly work for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dimitri does disco once again, but he's capable of much more, July 12, 2004

Defected's In The House series is arguably the most solid house music compilation series as of late, and if you've heard Jay-J & Miguel Migs' or Simon Dunmore's In The House CD sets, you probably felt like your search for high-quality deep house music was over. Taking you back to why you loved those Nude Dimension and French Session CDs several years ago, those sets likely still reside in your home or car CD player's rotation.

Dimitri From Paris, who is known more for his exquisite disco selections as opposed to his house sets, very unfortunately delivers an uneven mix of mostly uninspired tunes. There are moments of greatness in this mix, and you'll know them when you hear them, but for the most part, I think he could have delivered a much tighter and effective mix if this had been a single CD affair. I like the value of getting 2 CDs, but not at the cost of quality.

If you like mixed disco, track down his classic My Salsoul import CD, which is classy, expertly mixed, and a nostalgic walk down memory lane for those who enjoy the genre. If you want to hear Dimitri do his house thing, Monsieur Dimitri's De-Luxe House of Funk is deep, sophisticated, and funky. Teddy G.'s Captain Dobbey in this mix is one of the most bumpin' champagne-sippin' moments I've ever heard.

All-in-all, Dimitri's In The House is an average mix from an artist who is capable of a whole lot more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your money..., March 18, 2004

After coming home from the winter music conference in miami last week and hearing all sorts of funky house I was pumped to add some new cd's to my collection. The one mistake i made while doing this was buying this cd. It is very slow and boring. I need something that is gonna catch me and want to make me move. If i was waiting in an elevator in the 1970's this cd is perfect. I know dimitri is a good dj and defected is a great label but this time it wasnt happening. There are a few songs hear and there that are up to par but as far as a 3 disc set its just not good. If you want to throw a dinner party this cd is good if you really like good house check out something else i would go with erick morrillo, hector romereo, junior jack and kid cream, roger sanchez, miguel migs, frankie knuckles. They all get it done!! Hope this helps , later .......
