"This basic framing book is packed full of information, yet is easy to use and understand...it is one of the best texts I have seen for new contractors or less experienced carpenters who are ready to take on more responsibility."

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative Book!, February 8, 2000
By Mark Oveson (Louisville, Colorado) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is an extremely well-written introduction to house framing. Each chapter is full of great, color illustrations and easy-to-follow instructions. The text is clear and concise.

I bought this book before building a redwood-framed greenhouse, and the information it provided was critical to my success. Then I bought one for my brother. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in building a greenhouse, shop, add-on room, or similar project.

Thanks to the publisher! All do-it-yourself books should read like this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Illustrative, July 17, 2000
By A Customer
This is a good book for anybody looking to uncover the mystery of framing and roof building. The illustrations are good and the text is very informative. The section on roof building is well thought out. Excellent reference for a begining/intermediate contractor or a do-it-yourselfer.

3.0 out of 5 stars there are better options ..., February 27, 2006
book is ok but lacks the detail and flow of say Graphic Guide to Framing ...or Journal of Light Construction guides. If your a reader and not really a hands on learner then the book may be a better fit for you. If however like me you learn by seeing a detailed picture and prefer to skip the long winded stuff..then this book is not a good fit. Also note the book does not give a lot of options...they show you one way to complete you project (except for the dormer plan)...were as say Graphic Guide gives you every way; plus a detailed drawing ie: say for a facia board trim out or venting options on a facia. As a guy that does this for a living I say your much better having all your options explained so that you can choose the best option for your situation.
