House of God,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The House of God (Kindle Edition)
I attended Harvard Medical school at the time this book's content took place. I actually know one of the doctors who was one of the embellished in the book. I read this book over 25 years ago. I really enjoyed the reread in 2010. I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially to anyone in the medical field. Unfortunately, some of the content was/is true.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The House of God (Paperback)
My favorite quote from this book is:
"13. The delivery of good medical care is to do as much nothing as possible." 13th absolute from The House of God. This will always be a favorite book of mine. My brother gave it to me for Christmas MANY years ago. He admits to reading it before he gave it to me.

The way it really is during training,
By
This review is from: The House of God (Paperback)
I am a physician who went through training in internal medicine about the time this was written. For anyone who has any curiosity about what it's like to be an intern or resident in a teaching hospital, I give them a copy of this book. I always have a few copies on hand for just that purpose. This is a wonderful, truthful account. Oh yes, and never get sick in July because that's when the new trainees start and the old ones move up to their next level of incompetency.

Should be a textbook for Medical Ethics Class,
By
This review is from: House of God (Paperback)
I read this book while in Respiratory School. I think it should be required reading for anyone taking a Medical Ethics class or considering a medical career. At the time of reading it, I was skeptical and cynical that such treatment and events happened. But as my career in a hospital continued, golden phrases came floating back such as "GOMERs go to ground" and "turfing".
I know it made me much more conscious of my relationships with my patients and made them a lot more human. I recommend it highly. |
