Book Description

This light-hearted romantic comedy set in the Scottish Highlands explores the themes of love, loyalty and class conflict in an entertaining romp on the heels of a maverick dog.
Fiona Buchanan is a young writer and historian who moves from Edinburgh to an old cottage in the Scottish Highlands to immerse herself in the landscape while she concentrates on the book she is writing. But her attempts to look after a loveable but irascible dog land her in the dog house with her new neighbours, the Parkers, who live in a nearby castle. Colin Parker is part of a rich and exclusive social set who are known for not mixing with the locals, but he takes an interest in Fiona after hearing her speak at a function, not realising that she is the dog’s owner. Despite her initial reluctance about their class differences, Fiona is slowly won over by the charming Colin as they introduce each other to their separate worlds until the dog’s misbehaviour tears apart their hard-won relationship and forces them to decide for themselves what really matters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Scotland! January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Nell's latest book, set up in beautiful Scotland, is entertaining romance at her best, and makes me think of Fire and Ice. I loved every moment of it, and I'm looking forward to the day they make a movie out of this one - just imagine the sceneries!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great one January 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The thing about Nell's writing is that it makes me want to travel. She makes every place seem really real, and her characters make it even more so. This one is full of her usual wonderful characters, lots of humour and some real romance. Can't wait for the next one - where are we off to next, Nell?

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining! January 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
A delightful romance, almost a romantic comedy really - Harding has done it again, and, as always, brings another beautiful corner of the world to light while keeping her reader thoroughly entertained. The characters area real and warm, the writing is solid and witty, and the read is pure fun romance. Definitely a major cut above your average romance writing - highly recommended. Looking forward already to her next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Who let the dogs out? January 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
A fun, easy-to-read, witty story that will have you thinking about what you would have done in Fiona's shoes... there you are, next door to that big mansion and its charming and handsome patron, Colin...with your ever-loyal best friend in the crosshairs of Colin's family. I really enjoyed the light-hearted comedic parts of this novel, the internal conflict is one I can relate to, and though I am nothing like Fiona, I found myself defending her, hoping for her, and waiting to see how she would come out of this tantalizing situation! This book is worth a read!

4.0 out of 5 stars The DOG is in the House! January 3, 2013
By 2002
Format:Kindle Edition
Nell nails it again! Not only has she set her novel in 2013's top travel destination she has done it in a " I want to go there" sort of way. Being a dog lover, I was immediately drawn into the relationship with Fiona and her canine friend. The forbidden love aspect rivals that of a Jane Austin story giving hope to all the underdogs out there. I love that the dog is the one in the end causing all the mischief, in fact it is almost as if Nell has taken a page out of my world. Read this book, you are sure to love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great romance January 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I just wanted to sing the praises of this new, up and coming romance novelist, one more time. I enjoy reading Nell's stuff so much. This book is fun, fresh and full of wickedly witty dialog...a typical Harding hit! Download and read. Go for it. The only thing you have to fear is the Scottish weather, but the flowers. Ah, the flowers! Thanks for another great read Nell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughter & Dog Love Winner February 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the second book I've enjoyed from this author's World Of Romance series. She brings enough detail into her location settings and occupations to ground her storyline in a sense of possible reality while avoiding pedantic descriptions that merely read as well-researched. Her plotting is light and full if dialogue which fleshes out her characters nicely. All in all, Ms Harding provides a well rounded bit of afternoon delight for any romance reader wanting to relax into a well told bit of escapism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Opposites Attract February 6, 2013

A fun romantic read with some laugh out loud situations. Leaving the lovemaking details to the readers imagination is a great change of pace from the usual lengthy, grasping for new adjectives sort of descriptions. The story gives us credit for intelligence and being able to read between the lines. Thanks, Nell Harding.

Given the details of the books, it followed through on the plot but stopped there. I may as well have just read the plot summary and stopped. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun.
An academic and a bored wealthy society man with a manor in the highlands. A bad dog. All combine to make a fun story and with the usual romantic happy ever after.

More About the Author

I wrote my first story when I was six and told everybody that I would be an author when I grew up. Many other ideas and dreams came up and had to be pursued, but I never gave up my writing plan. In between, I worked and travelled all over the world, studying wildlife in Africa, guiding hiking trips in Nepal, doing humanitarian field work in war and disaster zones and leading bicycle trips in Europe. All of the places and experiences that I have loved are now coming back to life for me as I use them in my novels, trying to recreate a bit of the magic of exploring and discovering new places and adventures.

My romance series, "Harding's World of Romance", hopes to bring readers to various romantic destinations to share some of my passion for new places and for happy endings. There are many more ideas already lined up for love stories, and I also have plans for another series of novels, although my pace might slow down now as another dream comes together in the form of a growing baby...
