After he is murdered in the unrest surrounding the dockers' strike, she flees to Liverpool with her father's money and her only friend, eight-year-old Ceppi. Using the money she rents a lodging house but discovers that one of her tenants is a murderer who threatens her safety and that of the little girl she promised to protect.
