3.0 out of 5 stars Should be two discs
There is great music on the show more than enough for this to have been a two disc set of songs. Enjoyable but lacking in a soundtrack from a show that is creative with music on this level. Notable missing item -which I will spell wrong-Hallelajuh. A time when less is less. But still worth owning just a disappointment because you want more.

Just like Dr. House himself, the soundtrack to the hit TV series manages to be both eclectic and brilliant, with a definite edge. The TV show frequently features a song that captures the feel of the episode, and this collection presents a representative selection of those pieces.

The album features some amazing tracks -- Michael Penn's "Walter Reed" is a bittersweet yet powerful ballad. Amazingly enough, Elvis Costello's cover of Christina Aguilara's "Beautiful" manages to work despite its unlikely heritage. The final song, a cover of the Stones classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want" featuring Hugh Laurie (Dr. House), Greg Grunberg (of "Heroes") and several other TV notables adds a nice laid-back feel to the album. Of course, the main title theme, Massive Attack's "Teardrop" leads off the album -- those who have never heard the full track will find it to be a great chillout piece on its own right.

Like the show, the mood of the soundtrack is often less than cheerful. However, there isn't a bad track on the album, and some of the tracks are incredibly poignant. "Walter Reed" is rapidly becoming one of my personal favorites. This isn't necessarily an uplifting soundtrack, but fans of the show will enjoy the selection of pieces evocative of one of television's best shows.

Amazon's digital download technology works flawlessly, even on a Mac. The Amazon downloader even helpfully deposited all the songs into iTunes. The low cost, lack of restrictive DRM, and hassle-free downloading make Amazon's MP3 Downloads the best digital download service on the net.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally A Soundtrack!, September 25, 2007
This review is from: House M.D. Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Just as it reads above the soundtrack has finally come out! I admit I wish they had more songs on here or released the music by season, but still the selections they have are quite nice. I'm really happy to see "Beautiful" by Elvis Costello on here as I thought he did a fabulous cover of the song! All in all a good mix, but if you have a favorite and just want the one I'd head over to iTunes.
Check out the official House website on Fox and get a free download from the album!
Also, if you interested in the songs from the show and like iTunes check out my iMix which is updated to Season Five. Type in: Fox House M.D. TV Soundtrack

5.0 out of 5 stars Short House calls, November 12, 2007
This review is from: House M.D. Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Upfront I like the House soundtrack a lot.

However it is only 12 musical cuts, including Tear Drop (the Theme from House) by Massive Attack. I wanted a few House-isms with his satire and wit, sprinkled in this CD..However this was not to pass.

The CD seems too quick and I needed to more. However, the last cut on this CD seems to answer me when I say I want more, and it is like House speaking to me musically... You Can't Always Get What You Want, performed by Hugh Lurie's band, Band from TV

The soundtrack is not a hit driven musical pieces. These 12 cuts fit the House tome. The music is somber and bittersweet, just like the show. A problem is they dont say what episode these songs were it..that still doesn't mean the music isnt good

If you heard this soundtrack and never knew It was The House MD soundtrack, you will enjoy the music just the same..and that is what you buy a CD for

4.0 out of 5 stars A great soundtrack, but they left out quite a few songs!, June 22, 2010
This review is from: House M.D. Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
First of all, I bought this soundtrack off of Amazon back when I had another account listing, so forgive me that it doesn't say "Verified Purchaser" or whatever, you'll have to take my word for it!

Back story: I love this show, since the very first episode (I admit, I saw the pilot episode only after it was well into Season 3, and everyone was raving about it). I had heard about that "Bastard Doctor Show" a few times, and I had no idea if "House" was a euphemism for something else or what.

What really pulls it all together for me frequently in the shows and movies that I love, is the MUSIC. I love how they integrate it into each show as helping the show progress, or showing the conclusion with the music playing softly in the background, etc. This show is no different.

Track listing:

1. "Teardrop" by Massive Attack (Full version of opening credits' song)
2. "See the World" by Gomez ("Half-Wit")
3. "Walter Reed" by Michael Penn ("Fools For Love")
4. "Beautiful" by Elvis Costello ("Autopsy")
5. "Dear God" by Sarah McLachlan
6. "Feelin' Alright" by Joe Cocker ("Detox")
7. "Waiting on an Angel" by Ben Harper ("Lines in the Sand")
8. "Got To Be More Careful" by Jon Cleary & the Absolute Monster Gentlemen ("Heavy")
9. "God, Please Let Me Go Back" by Josh Rouse
10. "Are You Alright?" by Lucinda Williams ("Fetal Position")
11. "Good Man" by Josh Ritter ("Human Error")
12. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by Band From TV

However, the reasoning for 4 stars is obvious; they are missing quite a number of famous tracks that brought the show its fame! What about the iconic time when Baba O'Riley was featured, and we are introduced to Vogler? Or what about the "On Saturday Afternoons in 1963" by Rickie Lee Jones, which showed us the first light in House's world, and gave us the thought "Maybe he isn't such an a-hole after all...", at the end of the second episode in the first season titled "Paternity"?

A better track list, if you love House. You should get these songs as well if you loved the first season:

1. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Rolling Stones (Pilot S1Ep1, "Honeymoon" S1Ep22, "Meaning" S2Ep1)
2. "On Saturday Afternoons in 1963" by Rickie Lee Jones ("Paternity" S1Ep2)
3. "One is the Loneliest Number" by Three Dog Night ("Occam's Razor" S1Ep3)
4. "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong ("DNR" S1Ep9)
5. "On Fire Like This" by Mutaytor ("Histories" S1Ep10)
6. "Baba O'Riley" by The Who ("Control" S1Ep14)
7. "Crazy World" by Daniel Moynahan ("Mob Rules" S1Ep15)
8. "It's Okay to Think About Ending" by Earlimart ("Role Model" S1Ep17)
9. "Happiness" by Grant Lee Buffalo ("Bribes and Bathwater" S1Ep18)
10. "Some Devil" by Dave Matthews ("Love Hurts" S1Ep20)
11. "Delia" by Blind Willie McTell ("Honeymoon" S1Ep22)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it especially Teardrop, January 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Teardrop as a lead-in to "House" is just a tease. The actual song is awesome, and the lead singer's voice is both beautiful and most unusual. I did not realize until we received it, that there are a load of great songs on this CD, including Joe Cocker's "Feeling Alright", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Walter Reed" by Michael Penn, and one that is guaranteed to make you cry "Waiting on an Angel" by Ben Harper. Like the title for the review says "well worth it".

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, June 10, 2009
This review is from: House M.D. Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This cd includes "Teardrop" by Massive Attack, which is the opening theme to the show, and "See the world" by Gomez, which, I think, is the "Firing song" (Which seems to what people refer to it as on youtube) (To spare some spoilers for those of you who are not that far along in the series, I will not go into much more detail :-) ). Anyway, those two, and Elvis Costello's "Beautiful", are what I was hoping to get from in this cd. For the most part, I consider most of the songs to run along the lines of "squishy" (a better term exists, just do not know it at the moment, maybe "soothing"?). Basically, these are all slow songs with a pretty good beat, nothing hard rock, IMO. Hope this helps, somehow.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Losers Here/ The Doctor is IN, November 25, 2011
This review is from: House M.D. Original Television Soundtrack (Audio CD)
A really interesting mix of songs used on seasons 1-3 of House.

I don't think there's anything I hate so much that I'm forced to skip it, except for maybe the song "Minnie the Moocher,"... but as Hugh Laurie sung that bonus song with the group Band From TV, and I am a leeettle bit Hugh Laurie obsessed, my ipod thumbwheel usually doesn't even get thumbed. As far as the rest go, they're a motley batch.

FAVORITES are "Walter Reed" by Micheal Penn, which is a melancholy song that reminds me forcefully of the character of House. ("I'm ranting while I'm raving, there's nothing here worth saving!") A great song, and personal favorite on the CD. Also, I love the new version of "Beautiful" which was used on season 2. This, in itself, is a song definately worth having. Beautiful is, sorry for a lack of creativity, but hey, use what works--beautiful. Sung by Elvis Costello, it has an upbeat tempo and is inspiring.

Also, you get Teardrop by the band Massive Attack, which is the lead in to the show. You'd never guess the song itself could be so mesmerizing. I've listened to this complete version many, many times and have yet to definatively decide what some of the lyrics are, but the song in itself puts me in a sort of spacey trance. "Waiting on an Angel," is another good one, but somewhat of a downer.

Overall, I would absolutely LOVE to see another soundtrack featuring the music from later seasons, or perhaps an individual soundtrack from each season, though this mismatched batch suited me just fine!
