Enlightening and Calming,
By
This review is from: House Made of Dawn (Audio CD)
I stumbled across this CD while browsing through Amazon's Gift Ideas section and listened to a couple of the 30 second clips. Just those couple clips left me feeling better and more relaxed, so I put the CD in my cart and ordered two copies--one for myself and one as a gift for my mother to go with the Sony Discman I was also picking up from her.All I can say about this CD is that it was truly the perfect purchase. I have listened to it many times. I play it both when I am going to sleep and when I am writing. It is simultaneously calming and enlightening--melodious and invigorating. I find it to be truly inspiring when I am writing. It is great background music, especially for acts of creativity. If you are a fan of Native American flute music, this is definitely the first CD you want to buy. And if you are simply looking for something to relax yourself, look no further. A magnificent piece of work from Coyote Oldman.

PEACE AT WORK,

Ambient music is new to me. I discovered this recording while looking for Native American music. This serves as background sound in my office and it puts me and my visitors in a better mood. All of the compositions are soothing and flow together as a concept. I hope to be able to play this outdoors, at sunrise, on the beach at Cape May, this summer. It will make a beautiful way to start the day. If you are in need of some spiritual sounds, this is the way to go.

Anhother solid recording from the ambient flute duo,

Coyote Oldman are among the most reliable artists in instrumental music today. Their new CD is another in a relatively long string of superlative deep ambient recordings. HOUSE MADE OF DAWN is mysterious without being dark, reflective without being maudlin or melodramatic and spacy without being gimmicky. That Barry Stramp and Michael Graham Allen do this using only flutes and studio magic never ceases to amaze me. The music on HOUSE MADE OF DAWN is perfect for very late listening or to accompany massage or intimate moments. The wooden flutes float effortlessly in the air yet since the music is ambient, no trace of "pop" sensibility mars the aesthetic (i.e. this is _not_ Nicholas Gunn). Recommended without reservation for people seeking a serene and calming sonic experience.

I'm no expert on Native American music, but I am a flute player, so I can certainly appreciate the skill evident on this CD. (I found the alto flute difficult enough to maintain breath control on, so the ability to play the bass flute *really* impresses me.)I'm a little skeptical of "mood music" in general, but this music lacks the cheesiness found in the many productions of lesser quality that seem to dominate the music racks. The textures are rich and relaxing, making this the perfect CD for lighting a few candles and curling up with a good book at the end of a rough day.

Stirs the Soul,

Hauntingly beautiful with deep rich native flute melodies. The artists are definitely masters at their craft. One of the nice things about this one, is that it keeps basically the same rhythm throughout the tape. So if you are listening in a meditative way, it doesnt change to fast and loud at some point. This is one of my favorites. It allows us to take a deep breath and slow down,as it works its tranquil magic. Great background music for bodywork and meditation....feels like floating on a cloud!

A gentle mental embrace.,

Unable to sleep one night, I switched on the radio which is preset to a station that does not cater to the common background noise of traditional radio. I became enveloped in gentle, soulfully smooth sound that had a clarity and presence one usually only senses when actually present with the intruments in a small, intimate coffee house or cafe. The music, "House Made of Dawn" by Coyote Oldman, was truly a gentle breath of fresh air in a world of mindless, often pretentious noise.

The ever-expanding breath of life.,
By Laurent COUQUIAUD (Lagny, France) - See all my reviews

This house that Coyote Oldman built is made of sheer hope for mankind as a new millenium rushes to its door. A sense of awe and discovery is present throughout this tapestry of hymns to quiet canyons by dawn. As there may not be accurate words to describe the experience of Coyote Oldman's music, I trust my heart will recognize those special places I dwell upon when I envision the colors beneath Barry Stramp's sound design. As unexplainable as it may get, I find interesting and unique the process by which Michael Graham Allen and Barry Stramp weave together Native American flute sounds with luscious studio effects. The destination of the synergy between the ancient instrument and sound technology emerges in the heart and memories of the listener. One can actually feel the pull of wood and breath like a tide as deep flute echoes tug the listener towards serene regions. Coyote Oldman weaves deep and eternal space music for the passing of time and the changing color seasons. Undoubtedly the highlight of the recording, "Luminous Expanse", radiates warmth and compassion comparable to Satori's "Invisible Rhythms" melancholic appeal. In short,"House Made of Dawn" is Coyote Oldman's most colorful and delicate musical achievement to date.

Refreshing Relaxation,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I purchased this CD after my massage therapist played it during a session. As a European and Native American flautist, I was moved by the exquisite tones, and how I responded physically (going into a deeply relaxed state, despite an injury) during the session. The music is wonderfully relaxing, yet refreshing. It seems to envelop and clear one's mind from everyday "chatter". Even my dogs seem to respond to it - if they are overactive or rambunctious, or if my husband has had a difficult day at work, or if I'm stressed, I put on this CD and everyone seems to have a sense of peace and tranquility restored. I frequently leave it playing on "repeat" throughout the day to maintain a feeling of balance, peace, and creative freedom. Perfect for meditation, yoga/Pilates practice, or if you have difficulty relaxing prior to sleep. A CD I keep by the player at all times (along with Andreas Scholl, but that's another story).

Deep into the canyons, I mean. This is truly soul stirring music. Great for Yoga practice. Gives you an opportunity to reflect while practicing. Based on a recommendation by Karen Hugg, I bought this CD and enjoy every bit of it. The flute sounds reach the bottom of the soul (so to say) and awakens it.
