"House of Cards", the Netflix original series, is a great show about American politics; and more importantly, how good people can get swept into the chaos that is our political system. I admire the show for a variety of reasons, but one of the most impressive elements of the show was the music.

This album comes with 37 tracks totaling over 115 minutes of music. If you purchase the CD version there are 2 discs; even if you buy the MP3 version, the songs are arranged the same way. As far as I can tell, the music is mostly presented in the chronological order of how it appears in the show.

Composer Jeff Beal returns for Season 2 and improves upon the music in every way. Beal's underscore is perfectly appropriate for the tone and atmosphere of the show as well as the performances. In many cases the music works better with the image that it does on its own, but if you've seen the show then listening to the music independently will remind you of the show's tone.

The Main Title music is the most memorable piece on the album; it is altered a bit from the Season 1 theme (the idea of giving the theme music a slightly different edge in each season is an appealing one to me). After having watched both seasons of the show, I've heard that main theme more than two dozen times and I've become attached to it. I think it's one of the great main themes in recent television history - it's forceful and foreboding, but not too over-the-top.

FAVORITE TRACKS:
[2] House of Cards Main Title Season 2
[3] The Ring
[37] Distance Myself

Jeff Beal does it again by giving us another musical chapter in the "House of Cards" series. I was first introduced to Beal upon hearing his score for the Jesse Stone television show. A score that certainly needs to be re-released. Beal's score from the first season was certainly impressive and he continues to produce some great music here as well. Again we are presented with two CDs that capture some of the moments throughout season 2. Beal stays true to the style and feel for the show. It really does become a soundtrack for everything Washington D.C. At least Beal gives us the soundtrack that we think is Washington. What does the music for D.C. sound like? Well, Beal's soundtrack is seductive, sneaky, corrupt, melancholy, and is full of "Plots have I laid". Shakespeare was able to capture the corruption of the royals with words and Jeff Beal certainly showcases our modern "royals" with music.

Beal's score gives us a time line throughout the season and weaves a tale of everything wrong with politics and those involved. It paints that world as a city full of life but one that is also filled with misery and secrets. The music has a beauty like that of a snake. Nice for the ears with a small hint of sinister lurking underneath. I love the score's ability to shift into an almost slow jazzy feel and Beal's use of the trumpet throughout is really nice. It becomes a stand out instrument that you look forward to hearing more of.

Like the first season's score, this one can be enjoyed by anyone wanting music to relax to. I imagine this would be a perfect score for a rainy day at home. Just don't let the corruption/ambition start to sneak in! Great score for fans and for anyone wanting some "chill" music. I recommend this one!

Jeff Beal has created one of the most haunting opening title theme songs, ever. It is extraordinary.

The soundtrack to House of Cards season 2 is, in my opinion, even better than the season 1 soundtrack! Jeff Beal sure knows how to set a mood; most of the tracks are hauntingly beautiful and include a tasteful amount of sub-bass to give your full-range speakers and/or sub a nice workout. It's sort of a combination of "dark" modern classical with bass that tickles the eardrum, and a fair amount of minimalism. There are certain movies and television shows that possess soundtracks which are as good as the movie or show itself. This is one of those golden combinations! Exceptional stuff to work to, or to simply enjoy with a nice glass of brandy while sitting atop your throne. :)

I see a large percentage of reviewers seemed to have somehow confused this soundtrack with the HoC season 2 DVD, and thus rated it very low. I think Amazon should consider taking these reviews down, as they really knock the rating down on an otherwise AWESOME piece of music. My personal favorite track from the album is To Be A King.

Well done, Mr. Beal. I can't wait to hear what you throw down next!

Deliciously dark. Perfect study music.

As I was listening to the themes from seasons one and two in my car I thought, "how would I describe these tracks if I knew nothing of the show?"
............."The sounds of a powerful and very well oiled machine."
Well done, Jeff.
