I don't normally go in for gospel albums, but I'm a huge Jim Byrnes fan, so of course I had to give this a listen. I bought it last year, before it was available on Amazon. I had to order it direct from Black Hen in Canada, but it was worth going to that extra trouble. If you're a fan of Byrnes, I highly recommend giving this a try. If you liked his last album, Fresh Horses, and if you especially liked the exquisite track "I'm Just a Pilgrim" from that album, you will surely like House of Refuge. The gospel elements here are good, and the more traditional blues songs are first-rate, as Byrnes' blues usually are.

Waited for more than a year for this album to be released in the U.S. Didn't want to pay international shipping from Canada, so I purchased it from i-tunes for 9.99. The album is wonderful. I am especially pleased with the spirituals on this release. Tracks 1, 2, 5, and 8 are my favorites. Two has been on repeat in my car numerous times. Fantastic song.

Jim Byrnes is one of my favorite artists. If you have never heard his recordings, start with That River which is one of my all time favorite albums. Then move on to Burning/I Turned My Nights into Days followed by Fresh Horses and of course this album.

Jim Byrnes and his band are awesome! This album had me from the first cut! This is my third Jim Byrnes album and all three are treasures!

I love this man's voice, and once again I was pleased. I am not normally a big fan of gospel albums, but this one could make you believe in a higher power if you started out as a disbielver.

From the first song to the last you are covered in a blanket of uplifting music. Jim Byrnes delivers once again!!!
