4.0 out of 5 stars Re-cuts with new band
This is album is a 'best of'...sort of...!! Eric resings these tunes with a new band, so the tempo and production is different than the original 'album/radio' version. This is nonetheless a good album as it features the mainline songs, sung slightly different. Soul and emotion is still there in the tunes.

Not for people looking for 'The best of EB...

If you are looking for a good Animals compilation, DO NOT BUY THIS CD! It contains good songs murdered by awful, badly produced rerecording featuring the duffest arrangements possible (complete with cheesy 80s electric Piano) and a drummer who can't keep time properly.

If you are looking for a good Animals compilation, DO NOT BUY THIS CD! It contains good songs murdered by awful, badly produced rerecording featuring the duffest arrangements possible (complete with cheesy 80s electric Piano) and a drummer who can't keep time properly.

Everything about it is unclear, it is a dirt-cheap swindle which doesnt tell you whether this really is the Animals or not. No effort went into this. The sleeve notes are sparse, the sound quality is bad, the CD itself looks like it is a CD-R, the arrangements are criminal and the cover is horrible, with the ugliest photo of the band ever taken.

Whether it be Eric Burdon solo songs or Animals songs, these are absolutely rubbish re-recordings on which it is unclear whether this really is the Animals themselves. Everything about this is unproffesional, it looks like it came off a third world illegal CD market! I hope I have convinced anyone with the slightest doubt in their mind NOT to buy this.

The only ever slightly okay tracks are the last 4: and they are not written by the Animals. This is awful. I wish I had never laid eyes on it and so will you if you buy it. STEER WELL CLEAR!

1.0 out of 5 stars Albums "like this" are pathetic--, April 11, 2001

--especially when the label provides no documentation whatsoever as to exactly what the buyer is getting--but, of course, they never do, because hardly anyone would ever buy the album! If you are some sort of Eric Burdon and the Animals completist who's interested in having ALTERNATE VERSIONS of their classics, you might enjoy this album, otherwise you'll likely think it's garbage. I won't even dignify this release by describing the sound quality of the album or the relative merits of these versions of the songs. I will say that, despite the label's attempt at "pretty" packaging, the liner notes were non-existent--and the back of the CD booklet even said, something like, "see inside for licensing info," but when you open up the "booklet," it's blank inside! --nice presentation, guys!

As a collector, I had an inkling that this might be one of "those" albums, mainly due to the suspicious lack of information accompanying the album listing, but I had an Amazon gift certificate, so I decided to "take a flier" on it, because I'm trying to replace an old beat up Animals compilation tape I had, and this album had some songs that one can't normally get, all together, on other compilations. Well, here's another example of "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is."

I couldn't even bring myself to perpetuate this fraud on to another misguided soul, by trading it in at a used CD store, so I did something I've never done before: salvaged the jewel case, recycled the pitifully uninformative paper inserts, and broke the CD right in half! Yeah, gift certificate down the drain, but it was somewhat therapeutic taking this CD out of circulation forever.

[Note to Amazon: How 'bout another gift certificate when you get a chance, to replace the one I squandered on this CD? And my advice to you is to be careful, as well, when YOU buy things from one of these "fly by night" labels, that provide no documentation about the origins of the recordings on the albums they release. Albums like this are blemishes on your catalog.]

3.0 out of 5 stars Simply not THE ANIMALS, May 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: House of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
The tracks on this CD are 1990's recording by a group formed and fronted by Danny McCulloch (bassist with Eric Burdon & The Animals in late 1960's) ... calling itself THE ANIMALS but containing no other 1960's members of The Animals or Eric Burdon & The Animals. Interesting re-recordings of 1960's hits made famous by The Animals and Eric Burdon & The Animals plus enjoyable new songs by McCulloch and Co but simply not THE ANIMALS and no Eric Burdon vocals on this CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Mother F in' Rip Off!!!!!!!!!!, June 28, 2004
This review is from: House of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
If you bought this album, you're one of the shmucks, like me, who was the victom of a scam! Yes, this cd and the company who made it, was a scam. If by looking at the label, you thought, hey this looks like the perfect Animals collection; good price, good song material, all true, but, IT's NOT THE ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!It is a bunch of modernized versions of old classics by The Animals. The guy who gave this cd a five star review, must be drunk, or deaf. I was so shocked when I first heard this cd. I kept skipping the tracks one by one, and every single one was modern and electronic-ized. It was like a bad friken dream! If I was old enough to sue, I'd sue this company for, well MISLEADINGNESS!!!!!!!!!!! This is absolutely a crime, and I should report this to "Seven On Your Side." I think you'll all agree, this is a big rip off scam!

I've been looking for the original American version of "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" ever since CD's came on the market. I have purchased several CD's of The Animals Greatest Hits, but they all have the original British version. I have the original American 45 RPM, so I know the song very well. The rest of the other Animal songs on those CD's are the original versions.
I thought I'd give this very inexpensive CD a shot. Well, not only is "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" a cover, the three other songs that charted in the United States are also covers. And, they are not even covered by Eric Burdon, but one of the other Animals. In fact, Eric Burdon does not even appear anywhere on this CD.
The 8 other songs on the CD are covers of other artist's songs, or songs I've never heard of. I don't mind paying good money for a CD if the song I'm looking for is the original (in this case, American) release. However, in this case, it was not. I do not recommend buying this CD, even at this low price.

1.0 out of 5 stars I see im not the only one, May 15, 2005
This review is from: House of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
For some reason there are a number of releases under the Animals name that are complete forgery. I bought this piece of crap at a TOWER RECORDS!!!. These arent the original songs and probably not even the same band. The sound quality is horrible and on top of that these covers are horribly executed. It sounds more like a bad lounge singer. DO NOT BUY if you see this anywhere!!

1.0 out of 5 stars ARRGGG!, March 30, 2005
This review is from: House of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
Dear God burn it, burn it! Holy Hell, i have no idea what these people did to these songs but they sound like crap. This is an aweful cd, it's just a collection of some of The Animals most well known songs, which have somehow been "digitally remastered" to grate on your eardrums. It's not even Eric Burdon and The Animals who sing the songs on the cd, it's some moron with a synthesizer. My God they should all be burned and sent back to Hell where they belong.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont buy this CD, November 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: House of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
There is a good reason why there is "no image available" for this CD. The CD wasn't recorded by the animals. It sounds NOTHING like them and since I opened it and played it to find this out... I can't return it. But I can burn it. That is ALL that this is good for. It is a complete rip-off. I may never buy another CD from Amazon again!

1.0 out of 5 stars This is ridiculous!, January 22, 2005

I echo the sentiments of all the other reviewers. I did not buy this CD on Amazon.com, but it was an impulse buy while browsing in a local used CD store. I was lured by the cheap price. I usually research reviews and "try" before buying by getting CDs from the library. Needless to say, I will be returning this. There are no liner notes with musician/songwriter information. Anyone with even a casual knowledge of music will recognize that this is not The Animals, but a canned, synthesized cover band. What an insult to The Animals, musicians, and music fans!

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT IS THIS PIECE OF ****?, April 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: House of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
I got this cd expecting to hear The Animals, since it does have their name and an old picture of them on the cover (One would believe that's what they were getting when buying this CD). Instead it ends up being an imposter poorly imitating the lead singer's vocals and sounds like some guy playing on a keyboard synthesizer down in his basement. This CD is CRAP! DO NOT BUY IT!!! This cd should get a negative 5 stars.
