5.0 out of 5 stars Nice set.
The table-box is very nice and very well built. The drawers are very convenient and have small compartments for each piece. It looks nicer on the picture, though. I would expect the board surface to feel more natural, more wooden like. What makes this set great is the pieces included which are of great quality and carefully carved. Nice weighted. House of Staunton deliberately misleads one into thinking these expensive sets are made by some artisan in England or somewhere in Europe...when infact they are made in India. They even say on their website that Indian made chess sets are of low quality and that Indian companies have no regard for copyright. 5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed!, March 28, 2011
I couldn't be more pleased with this set! It is absolutely, hands down, the finest set I've ever owned. It didn't take long to ship and one of my biggest concerns was the if it would arrive at my house in pristine condition. When UPS delivered to my door, the box was humongous! I quickly opened it to find styrofoam popcorn filled to the top so I dug in. Popcorn flowed out everywhere as I pulled out a small box. This box contained two layers of foam casings. The top contained the white chessmen and the bottom the black. Not only did each piece have its own compartment in the casing but they were also in small individual zip lock bags. Each piece was in perfect shape. The packaging will be kept in the event that I move I can safely transport the chessmen. I set them to the side and dug further into the first box of popcorn and pulled out the board (which is called a tiroir on the House of Staunton website). The box it was in had two foam ends that slide on to two opposing sides of the board to prevent it from banging around. This box will also be kept for transportation purposes. The board itself is absolutely gorgeous. The drawers are very nice and even includes extra compartments for whatever you may want to put in there. You can order a set of hand-carved droughts (checkers) from the House of Staunton that will fit nicely in the extra spaces. The quality is great and really my only gripe about it is that it was slightly off balance on one corner so there is a minute rock the board has if you push down on that corner but it is easily fixed. I like to leave this set out as it really does compliment any room you place it in and it will also make a great family heirloom! I recommend this set to anyone whether you're a chess grandmaster or just a casual player.

I could not be more pleased with this chess set. The pieces are beautiful and have a nice weight to them. The set comes with an extra Queen which is a nice touch. Looks so beautiful that we leave it out full time.

This review is from: House of Staunton Classic Chess Set & Board (Misc.)
A great chess board with weighted bottoms and fitted and fabric silk draws to hold and keep the the peices scratch free. The set also has an extra queen for both sides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but Big, October 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Received set as a gift and it's gorgeous, the pieces feel wonderful, the drawers smell lovely,
the board is beautiful and feels really nice to the touch...

My only drawback is how big it is, this thing is huge... so I wound up returning it.
